After Nuno Tavares, Lazio have been dealt a new blow with Nicolo Rovella reportedly ruled out of the contest against Udinese.

Fresh Headache for Lazio

The Biancocelesti were already without the injured Taty Castellanos and Elseid Hysaj, while Luca Pellegrini has been excluded from the Serie A list. On Monday morning, a report revealed that Tavares will be rested as a precautionary measure after sustaining a slight muscle problem in Sunday’s final training session.

But with only a few hours separating us from kickoff, La Lazio Siamo Noi revealed that Rovella has suffered a similar fate. The Italian midfielder picked up a muscle strain so he will be certainly dropped from the starting lineup against Udinese and could start on the bench.

This is another painful blow for Marco Baroni given the 23-year-old’s importance in his tactical system. After all, he’s the lynchpin who pulls the strings in the middle of the park. Moreover, Rovella will be suspended on Thursday in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 against Viktoria Plzen after earning his marching orders in the first leg, so he was hoping to at least play on Monday.

The Replacement

With the Genoa youth product ruled out, Reda Belahyane is now in line to make his full debut for Lazio after making an appearance off the bench against Venezia. The source tips the youngster to start as a deep-lying playmaker in a 4-3-3 formation, supported by Matteo Guendouzi and Matias Vecino.

The alternative solution would see Baroni maintain his 4-2-3-1 system, with Loum Tchaouna spearheading the charge.

Lazio Probable XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Gila, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Belahyane, Vecino; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni.

  1. Baroni has to go back to more rotation. Reda and now Vecino back are two strong covers for both Guondozi and Rovella. Ibrahimovic hasn’t kissed the grass yet in Serie A and in Europe he had 10 minutes and God knows how long Isakksen can go before he also has a problem(knock on wood it doesn’t happen)… obviously the Mister knows best but one must wonder.

    Forza Lazio
