Lazio are aiming to add a new attacking midfielder in the summer, and RB Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner has emerged as a possible solution.
The Background
After parting ways with Luis Alberto last summer, the Italian capital side has been lacking a natural Number 10, also known in Italian football as a ‘Trequartista’. Nevertheless, Marco Baroni managed to find a solution by deploying Boulaye Dia, a striker by trade, as an attacking midfielder behind Taty Castellanos in his 4-2-3-1 formation.
Christoph Baumgartner Offered to Lazio
But according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti are now seeking a more suitable profile for the role, an attacking midfielder blessed with good technique on the ball, and capable of linking up the lines. The source mentions Baumgartner as a potential candidate for the role.
Estimated Value
The 25-year-old is an Austrian international player who has been plying his trade in the German Bundesliga since 2017. After six years at Hoffenheim, he joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 on a transfer worth €25 million. Nevertheless, the source estimates his current value at €15-18 million.

This season, Baumgartner has contributed with five goals and two assists in 41 appearances. It should also be noted that his agency, YOU FIRST, also represents former Lazio Alumni Luis Alberto and Raul Moro. Hence, the player’s representatives, who are familiar with the club’s hierarchy, reportedly suggested the Austrian as a solution for the Aquile.
Boulaye Dia Facing Uncertain Future
On the other hand, Dia could be sacrificed if Lazio were to receive an offer worth €12-13 million, which would help them finance a move for a new Number 10.
Finally someone good
We need a top-class striker. Taty misses too many chances.
