Lazio midfielder Nicolo Rovella expressed his desire in the Italian capital for years to come while confessing his love for the Aquile.
The Background
The 23-year-old is a Genoa youth product who signed for Juventus in January 2021, but was never granted the opportunity to prove his worth in Turin. After loan spells at Genoa and Monza, the deep-lying playmaker signed for Lazio in August 2023 on a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy for a total of €20 million.
Nicolo Rovella’s Rise to Prominence
In his first season in Rome, Rovella had his highs and lows. However, he has managed to make leaps and bounds this term under the guidance of Marco Baroni. The Italy international has now emerged as one of the finest deep-lying playmakers in Serie A, and has been attracting the interest of several suitors between Italy and abroad.
Italian Midfielder Rejects Premier League Suitors
The midfielder has been linked with Inter Milan, as well as Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City. But in his interview with Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato), Rovella insists he only has eyes for Lazio, reiterating his intention to stay at the club for the rest of his playing days.
I’m in love. I have a truly special bond with Lazio. The fans are similar to South America, they are the best in the world. I want to stay here forever. I didn’t come here to explode and then go on to win silverware with other clubs. I’m flattered that the big clubs are looking for me, but I am already in a big club.
I have a five-year contract and I’m happy here. This club is evolving, it has a project that involves me. I hope to win a lot here, to bring Lazio back to the top. I want to lift more than one cup. This is my mission.
Nicolo Rovella’s Stats this Season
The Sergate native has become an automatic starter in the middle of the park, forming a brilliant understanding with Matteo Guendouzi. This season, he has made 42 appearances in all competitions – although he has yet to score, he has contributed four assists.
Daft headline. Liverpool has no interest in him but it’s admirable that he wants to stay with his club
Nice words Nicolo, but there is no project here.
Lotito doesn’t care about winning.
I beg to differ. Not caring and not being able to invest for your standards are 2 different things. May I remind you, whilst Simone was still here, after Juventus Lazio won the most trophies in the past decade at that time so yeah… we do have a project, we also have a stadium project initiated so there are actually multiple projects at Lazio as we speak. You must be Italian because your pessimistic outlook says a bit. If I got that part wrong, apologies.
Ps: we will beat Inter tomorrow, just watch.
nice to hear the loyal words from a rising star like Rovella, I like him very much too. He is the future of Lazio.
Lotito should be out, he has no determination and willingness to spend. Lazio have no youth development system, and Lotito always prefer to gamble on some unknown players or injury prone players just to sign sb at a bargain, he never has a determination to sign sb with well-proved data or a hot player from other clubs similar to the standard of Lazio.
