Lazio are hoping to reconcile with Alessio Romagnoli who has expressed his dissatisfaction with the management’s treatment.
The Background
The 30-year-old is a lifelong Biancocelesti star who saw out his contract with Milan to join his beloved club in 2022. The defender reportedly had more financially enticing offers on the table, but he accepted Lazio’s offer, which included a €3 million salary with the promise of earning a pay rise if he helps the club secure a spot in the Champions League.
Lazio Didn’t Keep Their Promise for Romagnoli
While Romagnoli did his part in the 2022/23 campaign, contributing to the club’s second-place finish in the Serie A table, Claudio Lotito and the hierarchy didn’t keep their word. Romagnoli even alluded to this incident in his interview after last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Juventus.
Angelo Fabiani Held a Meeting With Romagnoli’s Agent
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the defender’s statement may have hit a nerve, as the management decided to act. The source claims that the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, held a meeting with the player’s agent, Enzo Raiola, in an attempt to mend the fences.
Lazio Keen to Keep Alessio Romagnoli
The report admits that the outcome of the summit remains uncertain at this stage, but Lazio have every intention to renew Romagnoli’s contract, as they consider him a key player in the squad.
The centre-back’s current deal will expire in June 2027, and earlier reports suggested that the Biancocelesti could offer him a salary of €3.5 million, putting him on par with club captain Mattia Zaccagni who is Lazio’s highest earner at the moment.
Well, that is the least Lazio must do to keep him. I don’t understand why Lotito didn’t keep his promise in the 1st place. Now, if city/Chelsea come onocking for Gila we CANNOT loose both of them !
