Lazio have reportedly opened talks to sign Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo on a free transfer, but they must first offload one of their current players.

Junior Firpo Offered to Lazio

Il Corriere dello Sport confirms recent reports that linked the Dominican star with the Biancocelesti. The 28-year-old’s contract with the Peacoks will expire next month, and he’s now set to leave Elland Road after playing an integral role in the club’s triumphant Championship campaign, contributing four goals and 10 assists.

A First Meeting at Formello

According to the Roman newspaper, Junior Firpo’s services have been offered to Lazio by his Agents at You First (the same ones who represented Luis Alberto). They held a meeting with Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani last Thursday at Formello to discuss a potential deal.

Lazio Must Offload Either Nuno Tavares or Luca Pellegrini

But as the source explains, the Aquile won’t be able to sign the former Real Betis and Barcelona man before making room for him in the squad. Hence, they will have to sell either Nuno Tavares or Luca Pellegrini, as they can’t have three players competing for the left-back slot.

These two players are currently on loan, but Lazio have the obligation to buy them from Arsenal and Juventus, respectively, at the end of the season.

Lazio in Race Against Time

However, the report believes the Biancocelesti must act swiftly and decisively if they intend to prevail in the race to sign Junior Firpo, as the latter has several admirers in Europe, including Atletico Madrid and Milan, and is now free to join any club.

  1. I would not sign him. Only if you get a significant amount for Tavares I would think about it. I would keep Pellegrini for sure because he can occupy a home-grown slot.

  2. I do like Firpo and would love seeing him wear our shirt but I like Nuno and Luca too plus the latter is homegrown indeed.. difficult one.
