Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani explained why Marco Baroni is leaving the club after a single campaign in charge.
The Background
The former Lecce and Hellas Verona manager started his experience in the Italian capital on the right foot, but lost the plot somewhere down the line. Hence, the decision to part ways with the manager has been taken since the start of the week, but it will only be made official next Tuesday following a meeting with the 61-year-old legal team, reports La Lazio Siamo Noi.
Marco Baroni Asked to Leave?
But while confirming the imminent separation, Fabiani paints it as a mutual decision taken by both parties, and fueled by Baroni’s desire to leave the club. These are the director’s words as reported by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
Baroni thought it was appropriate to leave for his own reasons, but Lazio were great on two fronts and fought for the Champions League until the bitter end. All it took was a few more points at the Olimpico.
Fabiani Reveals Lazio’s 10 Untouchables
Moreover, Fabiani denied Lazio’s desire to sell some of their most prized assets, while naming 10 players that are considered ‘untouchable’ by the club.
We will have a new coach, but the project with the young players will continue . We have a good foundation, we will not dismantle and reassemble. I will not sell any big names.
Mandas, Gila, Romagnoli, Rovella, Guendouzi, Dele-Bashiru, Isaksen, Zaccagni, Dia and Castellanos will remain . The squad will only be trimmed with superfluous departures because 26 outfield players are too many for a single competition.
Which Lazio Players Could Leave
The source adds that Lazio will likely keep 19-20 outfielders for next season, while leaving the door open for the departure of one between Nuno Tavares and Luca Pellegrini. Furthermore, Patric and Loum Tchaouna could also head towards the exit door, and the club will certainly try to offload Toma Basic.
Tchauna, Hysaj, Lazarri, Basic and Noslin, all those players need to go.
We need to bring in more big name attacker, both Taty and Bia are second tier strikers.
If Tavares goes we need a good replacement, the wings have long been neglected in this squad and they make a big difference.
Lazarri is terrible and Marusic is getting older.
Noatter who the coach is, the bench needs to be way stronger if we are to fight for a UCL spot.
Totally agree. This is a joke of a club currently. I am afraid that if Sarri comes, he will insist on 4-3-3 which with the current midfielders wouldnt be able to hold the lines. They are to weak. Sell the whole lot if you ask me. This is no team to build on. Taty missed so many chances this season it was unbelievable.
Your choices are too much for Lotito, he doesn’t have the cash to afford them. Sadly, they are out of our reach.
Sell both Dia and Taty. Dele-Bashiru, Noslin and Tchouma as well. Even Zaccagni or Gila if offer is good. But bring the same (but younger) or better replacements! Keep Pellegrini.
We need tall central defender who will be able to command the whole backline. Maybe Milan Škriniar.
Then offensive right full-back, someone like Pedro Porro.
Pure #10, creative trequartista. Rayan Cherki from Lyon?
Quick left wing like Martinelli.
Tall and ready #9 + backup striker. Chris Wood or Isak if we have money. Or Lorenzo Lucca + Callum Wilson would be wonderful pair.
… ok Isak is worth €120m. That was a bit wild wish. But Lucca (€22m) and Wlilson (€8m) are within our budget. I would take them anyday over Taty + Dia. Škriniar is only €15m, if we sell Gila take him straight away. Martinelli is over €50m and he wouldn’t leave Arsenal for a club which doesn’t even play in Europe.
Fabiani is useless ! 17 MILLION FOR NOSLIN? !!
Tchuana? Dia? Berishu? And made of glass Tavares !
All garbage!
