Cagliari are reportedly planning a move for Matteo Cancellieri who is expected to rejoin Lazio next month.
The Background
The 23-year-old is a Roma youth product who went on to make a name for himself as an up-and-coming talent at Hellas Verona, prompting Lazio to sign him on loan with an obligation for £8.5 million in the summer of 2022.
Struggles at Lazio
Nevertheless, the winger couldn’t find sufficient space in his first season at Formello under Maurizio Sarri, so the Biancocelesti sent him on loan to Empoli in August 2023. Last summer, he joined Parma on loan with an option to buy.

Cancellieri only scored three goals in his 27 Serie A appearances this season, so the Ducali have apparently opted against activating the purchase clause. Hence, the Italian will likely return to Formello this summer, before trying to find himself a new club, as Lazio are already planning to trim their current squad.
Cagliari Set Sights on Matteo Cancellieri
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari has emerged as a plausible solution for the young winger. The Isoliani have appointed their former player, Fabio Pisacane, as their new head coach to take over from Davide Nicola, so they’re now looking to bolster their ranks with new attacking additions.
Cancellieri’s Contract & Market Value
The transfer market expert reveals that the Sicilian club has already made first contact, enquiring about the player’s availability. The Roman’s contract with Lazio is valid until June 2027, and Transfermarkt estimates his market value at €4.5 million.
Either keep him or sell him permanently. No more loans.
