Lazio will reportedly resort to free agents in their desperate attempt to work around the ban imposed on their summer transfer campaign.

Lazio’s Transfer Block

The Biancocelesti failed to balance their accounts, as illustrated by their most recent financial report. Therefore, COVISOC are preventing them from signing any new players this summer in what can only be described as an enormous blow for the club, even though the hierarchy is trying to play down its vast ramifications.

Lazio Seeking Unconventional Solutions

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), club president Claudio Lotito is seeking any sort of solution that would allow him to reinforce the squad, especially if the club ends up losing the services of one or more key stars who have release clauses.

Claudio Lotito Targeting Free Agents

As the source explains, Lazio are hoping that the ban will be lifted by the start of October, which would allow them to register new players. At that stage, the transfer market would be closed, but clubs are allowed to sign free agents. Hence, Lazio would theoretically be able to strike agreements with free agents who would only become eligible to play for the club by October 1.

Junior Firpo

The report names three potential free agents that could be considered, beginning with Junior Firpo who has been on Fabiani’s radar for quite some time. The 28-year-old left-back saw out his contract with Leeds United, and has yet to find a new club. The Dominican has sizable experience in Europe, representing the likes of Real Betis and Barcelona in the past.

Giacomo Bonaventura

The second name on the list is Giacomo Bonaventura, a highly respected midfielder who played for Atalanta, Milan and Fiorentina over the years. The 35-year-old spent the previous campaign with Al-Shabab, but is apparently on his way out of the Saudi club.

Jeronimo Domina

Finally, Lazio are keeping tabs on Jeronimo Domina, a 19-year-old Argentinian striker. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the teenager’s contract with CA Union runs until the end of the year, so he’s more likely to leave the Santa Fe club in January.

  1. Firpo and promote academy players. Academy players don’t need to be registered and can squad depth immediately. Some would surely take the opportunity and play well

  2. That is more than just a desperate plan… That’s superdesperate and supernaive plan. Waiting 3 full months for free agents to remain free and then maybe, just MAYBE we will be allowed to sign them. Every worthy free agent will be contracted by the end of summer. So our selection pool will be full of rejects who didn’t train properly for at least 3 months. How fast will they be able to add something to the team? At this point I think it is better to keep Basić and field him.

    1. I agree. This really doesn’t seem like a plan. It makes no sense at all. Just keep the squad we have already and talented young guys like Floriani.
