Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani explains why he firmly believes that Maurizio Sarri is a more suitable option than his predecessor, Marco Baroni.

The Background

The Biancocelesti appointed Baroni last summer following Igor Tudor’s short tenure. The former Lecce and Hellas Verona boss started on campaign on a positive note, with the club competing on all fronts. However, all the good work was undone as the team lost its steam in the second half of the campaign and ended the season empty-handed, failing to even qualify for Europe.

Lazio Brought Back Sarri After Parting Ways with Sarri

Therefore, Lazio and Baroni decided to part ways, as the manager headed to Torino, and the capital side rekindled their partnership with Sarri who returned to Formello for a second spell, 15 months following his resignation.

Angelo Baroni Thanks Marco Baroni for His Efforts

In his interview with Radio Radio (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Fabiani paid tribute to Baroni for all the work he conducted under tough circumstances.

I will forever be grateful to Baroni because he came here at a very difficult time, and not everyone would have accepted the challenge. Nevertheless, he did, and for that, I love him and thank him.

He decided to go to Torino, and then Sarri immediately made himself available. I have great faith in Maurizio’s experience to help improve the young players.

Lazio Director What Makes Maurizio Sarri Better Than Marco Baroni

Fabiani also noted that Sarri is more far-sighted than Baroni who lost the plot in the latter stages of the campaign.

Baroni has a different profile than Sarri, even if only in terms of experience. Sarri is more forward-thinking, and there are certain phases of the game where the coach must be alert to make the right adjustments.

Last season, we were a bit presumptuous at times; the first half of the season certainly made us slack, so when it was time to change gear, we didn’t.
