Sassuolo earned their first points of the Serie A season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a stuttering Lazio side. A second-half goal from substitute Alieu Fadera was enough to secure the win for the hosts, as the Biancocelesti failed to convert a number of late chances.
First Half: A Tense & Controversial Affair
The match began with Sassuolo showing determination to put their poor start behind them.
Early on, a controversial moment saw Sassuolo’s Aster Vranckx initially shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Lazio’s Nicolo Rovella. However, a VAR review downgraded the punishment to a yellow card.
The incident seemed to disrupt the rhythm of the game, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.
Second Half: Alieu Fadera Breaks the Deadlock
The second half saw Lazio push for an opener, with Mattia Zaccagni forcing an extraordinary save from Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric. Taty Castellanos was then forced off with an injury – a significant blow for the visiting side.
Despite a couple of threatening moves from the visitors, it was Sassuolo who capitalized on a set-piece. In the 70th minute, a corner was nodded down by Tarik Muharemovic, and Alieu Fadera was in the right place to tap the ball in from close range to put the home side ahead.
Lazio pressed for an equalizer in the final minutes, with Pedro and Boulaye Dia testing Muric, and Mario Gila heading a glorious chance over the bar in stoppage time. However, the Sassuolo defense, marshaled by their heroic goalkeeper, held firm to secure the three points.

This is not a narrow defeat…its utter SHIT…
Uninspired, too many passes in the midfield without any clear plan to attack. Cancellieri is useless at the moment
