Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni is greatly disappointed with his team’s display in the Derby della Capitale, especially after gifting the winner to Roma.

Lazio Suffer Defeat in Roma Derby

The Biancocelesti had a flurry of chances but failed to find the back of the net. While Boulaye Dia and Co. were wasteful in front of goal, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men pounced on a shocking howler from Nuno Tavares to score the solitary goal of the contest.

Nuno Tavares Committed Costly Mistake

The Portuguese tried to dribble past Devyne Rensch inside his own box, but was dispossessed by his opponent, which allowed Lorenzo Pellegrini to score a few seconds afterwards. Zaccagni was seen scolding his teammate right after the goal, and his mood hardly improved after the final whistle, as he once again voiced his frustration with this particular incident and the overall result.

Zaccagni Rues Derby Error

In his interview with DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Italy international lamented the ‘stupid’ howler that cost his team the Roman Derby.

We conceded a goal due to a stupid mistake. We had the game in hand and we dropped back too much after the goal. We had chances to equalize, but unfortunately we didn’t score, and we’re disappointed.

We had the game in hand, and three points after four games is starting to weigh on us. Now we’re trying to regroup and get going again. Restarting with the attitude we had when we were down to ten men is the only way forward. We’ll double down on this against Genoa.

Mattia Zaccagni Angered with Derby Result

Zaccagni then spoke to Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), and he once again expressed his disappointment while calling for unity.

It hurts. Losing a Derby is always bad, while losing it due to a lack of concentration hurts even more. We sagged for 15 minutes, then we came back, we had plenty of chances to equalize. We had the right attitude, so it’s a real shame. I’m angry and disappointed.

The only positive thing is our attitude, even despite the lack of manpower. We tried to equalize, but we have to give more both up front and at the back. We have to pull ourselves together. Now we’ll see against Genoa, where we’re short of midfielders.
