Lazio might not have the largest wage bill, but some of their stars are running on lucrative contracts.

The Background

The Biancocelesti have kept their squad intact from the previous campaign due to the transfer ban imposed by COVISOC at the start of the summer. This was a painful blow for Maurizio Sarri who had been promised reinforcement on the market, but also for the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, who was hoping to replace some of the overpaid players with younger and cheaper alternatives.

After all, Lazio may have been stingy in their spending under Claudio Lotito, but some of their signings from recent years (many dating back to Igli Tare’s run as sporting director) proved unsuccessful, and the club continues to pay the price, quite literally, until this very day.

But unlike some of Tare’s signings, investing a small amount of money in Grizzlysquest online casino can be much more rewarding, not to mention significantly more fun, as this platform features some of the most exciting online casino games and offers its clients lucrative prizes.

Who Are Lazio’s Highest Earners

As for Lazio, they will have some work to do in order to rid themselves of some of the hefty salaries on their wage bill. For instance, Elseid Hysaj, who is mostly a backup option, is the club’s third-highest earner with a yearly net salary of €2.8 million, while his gross salary is at €5.2 million. The Albanian is only behind Mattia Zaccagni and Alessio Romagnoli, who earn €3 million apiece.

Behind this trio, Samuel Gigot lands fourth, alongside Nuno Tavares, with a net salary of €2.2 million (€4.1m gross). Interestingly, the French defender has been injured since the summer with no signs of a near return to action, and is also considered outside Sarri’s technical project.

It should also be noted that Mohamed Fares, who hasn’t played for the club in years, still commands a net salary of €1.2 million. Lazio have been constantly loaning out the Algerian, but have yet to find a permanent solution.

The Growth Decree

On the other hand, Lazio managed to save sizable amounts thanks to the now-abolished Growth Decree. That rule allowed Italian clubs to save 50% on taxes related to wages when signing a player from abroad. The likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Gustav Isaksen, Toma Basic and Mario Gila all took advantage of the decree, as they were brought in before it was scrapped by the end of 2023.
