Lazio will soon set their plans for the January transfer campaign, as four players could be axed from the club’s project.
The Background
While the winter Mercato is usually considered a secondary market to complete or rectify the summer work, Lazio never had a summer transfer market to begin with, as they were slapped with a transfer ban due to their unbalanced account. Nevertheless, club officials expect the embargo to be lifted in the coming weeks, which would allow them to embark on what should be a busy January transfer session.
Lazio Will Start Planning for January Next Week
Ahead of Monday’s win over Cagliari, Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani confirmed that Maurizio Sarri will have the final say on the market, while also revealing that they’ll begin plotting for January during the upcoming international break (via Il Messaggero).
We’ll make an assessment with the coach; he’s the one who vetoes departures and indicates the roles to be strengthened. We’ll identify profiles that will be useful to his project by meeting during the break. The transfer market never sleeps: if necessary, we’ll intervene.
Maurizio Sarri Could Request the Sale of Four Lazio Players
Naturally, the Biancocelesti will be expected to offload some of their current players to make room for new arrivals. According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Reda Belahyane, Nuno Tavares, and Tijjani Noslin are all at risk. Interestingly, all four were bought during Marco Baroni’s one-year reign.
Dele-Bashiru & Belahyane to Be Placed on the Market?
Neither Dele-Bashiru nor Belahyane have managed to break into the starting lineup, despite an inviting opening caused by the lack of new arrivals. In fact, a revitalised Toma Basic managed to usurp them in the pecking order.
Nuno Tavares Ill-Suited for Sarri’s Lazio?
As for Tavares, he has never been able to convince Sarri due to the noticeable holes in his defensive game. The Portuguese is also considered too anarchic for the manager’s playing system, and he hasn’t done himself any favors during the Derby della Capitale, with his howler gifting Roma the solitary goal of the contest, and reportedly making a scene in the locker room.
Tijjani Noslin Struggling for Relevance
Finally, Noslin hasn’t been able to produce the desired impact, and he doesn’t even hold a defined role at the club, but is deemed a mere option off the bench who can cover various roles in attack. Nevertheless, finding a club willing to meet his current book value (circa €16 million) remains a big challenge for Lazio.
