Lazio have reportedly rekindled their interest in Sevilla defender Kike Salas, who has been on their shortlist since January.

The Background

The 23-year-old is a left-footed defender who primarily plays at centre-back, but can also be deployed at left-back. The Spaniard was one of the profiles linked to the Biancocelesti last winter to replace Patric who had to undergo surgery at the time. However, the Italian club ended up signing Oliver Provstgaard instead.

Lazio Renew Attempts to Sign Kike Salas

Last summer, Lazio weren’t able to sign any player due to the transfer ban imposed by COVISOC, but the club expects to solve the situation in the coming weeks, which would allow them to bolster Maurizio Sarri’s ranks. While it remains to be seen how many players Angelo Fabiani will be able to sign in one window, Orgullo Biri claims that Salas remains a target for the Aquile.

Salas Struggling for Minutes at Sevilla

As the Spanish source explains, the Sevilla youth product has been struggling for playing time this season, with Matías Almeyda favoring other profiles at the back, mainly Tanguy Nianzou, Marcao, and Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Sevilla native has only made five appearances this season between LaLiga and Copa del Rey. Therefore, his January exit shouldn’t be ruled out, as the Andalusian club would like to trim their wage bill by offloading some of their out-of-favor players.

The report adds that Salas’ contract includes a €50 million release clause, but Sevilla’s asking price should be around €15 million. For their part, Lazio would like to bring him on a favorable formula. In other words, they’re gunning for a loan move in January with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Do Lazio Need Salas?

It should be noted that Lazio already have two left-footed central defenders in Alessio Romagnoli and Provstgaard, but they could do with a new left-back, given Nuno Tavares’ unconvincing form this season, as well as his woeful injury record in 2025.
