Lazio are bracing themselves for what should be a busy January, as they try to make up for the lack of action in the summer.
The Background
The Biancocelesti weren’t able to make any new signings last summer due to a transfer ban imposed by COVISOC. The club is now expecting to get the all-clear from the new supervisory committee at some point in December, which would allow the directors to resume their transfer activity as usual. In the meantime, Maurizio Sarri will meet Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani to plot their next moves.
Two Lazio Players Set to Depart
According to Il Messaggero, the head coach will also have the final say on the departures, and he has already identified the players who will make way to fund new arrivals. Therefore, Tijjani Noslin is expected to leave after failing to find himself a prominent role in the manager’s plans. Moreover, one of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Reda Belhahyane should be sacrificed in midfield.
Sarri Insists on Signing Lorenzo Insigne
On the other hand, the Biancocelesti are expected to buy at least two new players. The first is an attacking winger, and Sarri’s favorite candidate is hardly the worst-kept secret in Rome. The 66-year-old has been pushing for a reunion with Lorenzo Insigne for several months, while the former Napoli captain has rejected all other offers, as he waits for Lazio to lift the ban.
Ivan Ilic for the Midfielder Role
Moreover, Lazio will certainly pursue a profile capable of playing on the left side of the midfield trident. While Sarri’s ultimate dream would be a reunion with Piotr Zielinski, the club can hardly afford the wages of the Inter Milan star. Therefore, Ivan Ilic represents a younger and more realistic candidate, especially after losing his starting berth at Torino.
Three Other Positions That Lazio Could Address in January
While the two aforementioned roles are considered absolute priorities for the manager, Lazio could also address other positions, depending on the circumstances. For instance, Nuno Tavares’ sale would prompt the arrival of a new left-back, with Genoa’s Aaron Martin considered the most likely option.
Likewise, a new striker would be needed if they end up offloading Taty Castellanos who has several suitors between Europe and South America. Moreover, the Aquile could target a new deep-lying playmaker if Nicolo Rovella fails to overcome his groin problem in due time.

An admirer of Lorenzo Insigner here, but he’s 34 now !! It’s time to rejuvenate the squad, not the other way around.
With the poor little budget, I doubt we will end up buying sb mediocre again as always. Lotito loves to gamble on bargain players. He is a big fan of sb with bad injury records and sb yet to be proved.
