The agent of Lorenzo Insigne confirms his client could soon sign for Lazio, as the two parties have been negotiating for quite some time.

The Background

The 34-year-old spent the bulk of his playing career at his hometown club, Napoli, but then endured an underwhelming three-year spell at Toronto FC. The diminutive winger returned to Italy in the summer, seeking a new chapter in Serie A. But while he had offers from the likes of Udinese and Parma, he has been holding out for Lazio, as he and Maurizio Sarri are keen to work together once more.

Maurizio Sarri Keen on Lorenzo Insigne Reunion

In recent weeks, it has been claimed that Insigne has been a topic of an internal disagreement at Formello, as the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, would rather invest in a young profile. Nevertheless, it appears that Sarri will get his way after all, as the hierarchy wouldn’t dare irritate him, especially after failing to reinforce his squad in the summer due to the transfer ban.

Agent Confirms Advanced Talks Between Lazio & Insigne

In an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Insigne’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, confirmed ongoing talks with Lazio, hinting that the negotiations have reached an advanced stage.

Let’s see what happens. It’s something we’ve been working on for a while, but there are other situations at stake. We’re almost there, but I won’t give you any bombshells. We have to be careful when it comes to transfer updates, as they could always fall through.

Insigne deserves to play at a high level. Everyone hopes to sign young players and then sell them on for capital gains. But even a 34-year-old player is useful to optimize the value of the players you have in your squad. Lazio like him for his characteristics; the problem is the transfer ban.

When Can Lazio Sign Insigne?

Lazio are expected to receive a final answer from the new supervisory committee that will replace COVISOC by mid-December. If they get the green light, they would be able to sign Insigne straight away thanks to his status as a free agent.

  1. There isn’t a better way to signal, that as a chairman even after this embargo. You got absolutely no clue how to run this club.

First transfer a 34 years old player with no selling value on a high salary.

The club needs equity, lower the salary bill.

So sign young players, have a coach that plays the young players to increase value. Sell players for high and buy a new one for cheaper. Lazio pays way too high salaries for player worth. Como is already near Lazio while paying a fraction.

Lotito should hire good people and not interfere with transfers, he’s awful at it.

  2. As a longtime Insigne admirer, I’d have been excited if this had happened 5 or 6 years ago. But now? It’s time to rejuvenate the team, not the other way around.
