Lazio will be without Mario Gila when they travel to Parma this weekend, as the sports judge has confirmed his ban.

Mario Gila Was Sent Off in Lazio vs Bologna Draw

The Spaniard received his marching orders in the final minutes of last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Bologna. The defender committed a challenge on Santiago Castro and went too far in his protest, prompting match official Michael Fabbri to show him a direct red card.

After the contest, Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri insisted that his player did not insult Fabbri, but simply told him he’s not among the best, to say the least.

He didn’t insult the official, he just told him he didn’t think he was a top-notch referee, without offending him personally. Usually referees turn around and walk away in those situations, but he’s a bit more sensitive than others.

Gila Receives One-Match Ban

While the Biancocelesti feared that the 25-year-old could be slapped with a two-match ban, the sports judge has been relatively merciful, considering a one-match suspension to be sufficient in this case, as revealed by Il Corriere dello Sport. In addition to the ban, Gila also received a €10,000 fine for uttering what has been deemed as ‘grossly disrespectful remarks’.

Therefore, Gila will skip Saturday’s contest against Parma at the Ennio Tardini, but will be available for selection when Lazio host Cremonese on December 20.

Patric to Replace Gila vs Parma?

In the absence of the Spanish international, his countryman Patric should be the favorite to start, having already replacing him in the final minutes against Bologna, as the left-footed Oliver Provstgaard is instead considered Alessio Romagnoli’s understudy.

  1. Lotito would make a better replacement for Gila. Or any Lazio defenders.
    SERIOUSLY.
His fat tummy will bounce back opponents’ ball.
