An Italian source has revealed the salary of every member of the Lazio first team in the 2025/26 season, as Mattia Zaccagni tops the bill.

The Background

While fans are often more interested in the sporting aspect rather than the finances behind the club, the Biancocelesti supporters have been unfortunate enough to witness the dire consequences of a poorly-managed football club (at least from an economic perspective), so they now find themselves increasingly interested in the club’s accounts, from the labour cost index to the players’ salaries.

The Best Paid Footballers in the World

Needless to say, Lazio’s wage bill pales in comparison to some of the European elite, not to mention Saudi Pro League giants, as the Aquile’s entire roster combined cannot match Cristiano Ronaldo’s earnings at Al-Nassr, or Karim Benzema, who currently plies his trade at Al-Ittihad. The two Real Madrid legends are both in the Top 10 on Forbes’ highest-paid athletes list for 2025.

The list naturally features basketball superstars, particularly Stephen Curry (2nd), LeBron James (6th), and Kevin Durant (10th). After all, the NBA is one of the most rewarding leagues in the globe thanks to its worldwide popularity, as evidenced by the enormous number of punters who rely on DraftKings lines when placing bets on the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, or any other NBA side for that matter.

Mattia Zaccagni Tops Lazio’s Wage Bill

For their part, Lazio operate on much more modest figures, as their highest earner only nets €5.8 million in gross wages, as revealed by Transfermarkt.it through their Instagram account. The man in question is club captain Mattia Zaccagni. He is followed by his compatriot Alessio Romagnoli, who collects €5.6 million.

Claudio Lotito & The Broken Promise to Alessio Romagnoli

The defender’s net salary is only worth €3 million, a figure he has been determined to adjust in recent years, but to no avail. Romagnoli had much more lucrative offers when he left Milan as a free agent in 2022. However, his heart was set on making a move to Lazio, and Claudio Lotito promised him a pay raise if he helped the club achieve Champions League qualification.

While the centre-back achieved this objective at the first time of asking (back in 2023), the club president has yet to back his word with deeds.

Nuno Tavares completes the podium with a gross salary of €4.1 million, followed by four players who all earn €3.7 million. These are Elseid Hysaj, Nicolo Rovella, Ivan Provedel, and Matias Vecino.
