Lazio were left furious after drawing the short end of the stick once more in the 1-1 draw against Udinese.

Lazio Drop Two Points in Udine

After taking the lead through Matias Vecino’s deflected shot, the Biancocelesti were seconds away from registering a vital away win in their last match of the season. However, Keinan Davis scored with the last kick of the match to secure a point for the Zebrette.

The Lazio players asked for the VAR to intervene after two handballs in the build-up to the goal, the first on Matteo Palma, and the second on Davis, as the ball struck his arm following Nicolo Zaniolo’s shot. However, the VAR dismissed both incidents after a brief check.

Lazio Irritated As VAR Allows Udinese’s Equalizer

Following the contest, Lazio released an official statement through their official social media accounts, demanding respect from the Italian football authorities.

While respecting the work and commitment of the referees, we continue to record with growing bitterness a series of errors that are consistently unfavorable to us, repeated and difficult to understand.

SS Lazio demands respect, uniformity of judgment, and greater attention: incidents that are clearly impacting the team’s work and the fairness of the competition, generating significant financial damage to the club and profoundly damaging the passion, commitment, and sacrifice of a fan base that supports these colors, at every stadium and in every context.

The club then posted a 45-second clip on their social media channels, showing nine controversial episodes that went against them this season, including Toma Basic’s red card in Parma, and the infamous Strahinja Pavlovic handball.

For his part, Maurizio Sarri was left livid after a series of calls that went against his team. As the DAZN correspondent revealed (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the 66-year-old immediately turned to his technical collaborators, saying, “Okay, I’m not talking anymore”. This was followed by a post-match media blackout.

Maurizio Sarri Has Been Criticizing the Refereeing for Months

Interestingly, Sarri had urged the Lega Serie A to appoint foreign referees following his team’s defeat to Inter Milan last month, which prompted a swift response from the Lazio hierarchy, who distanced himself from the manager’s statement.

This incident didn’t sit well with the former Napoli boss, who was quick to remind the management of their lack of support for his stance following last weekend’s stalemate against Cremonese, when he felt that his side was denied a clear penalty-kick.
