Brentford have been scouting Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri, as an official bid could soon arrive in Formello.
The Background
The 23-year-old has been on the Biancocelesti’s books since making the move from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2022. The Italian initially struggled to find space at Maurizio Sarri’s court, so he spent the previous two seasons on loan at Empoli and Parma.
However, Lazio’s transfer ban provided Cancellieri with a new opportunity, and he made the most of it. The Roman was the club’s standout performer in pre-season, and he managed to lock himself a starting spot, especially with Gustav Isaksen struggling for form and fitness this season.
Brentford Scouting Lazio Winger Matteo Cancellieri
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Cancellieri’s performances this season have attracted interest from Brentford, who sent scouts to monitor the player during Lazio’s 2-2 draw against Fiorentina on Wednesday. The Bees’ representatives will also be in attendance on Sunday when the player makes his return to the Bentegodi Stadium for the contest against Hellas Verona.

Pedullà believes that a concrete offer could be submitted afterwards, while insisting that Lazio do not consider any winger unsellable at this stage, perhaps except for club captain Mattia Zaccagni. If Cancellieri ends up leaving Rome this month, the transfer market expert expects the Aquile to pursue Daniel Maldini, who has been heavily linked with a move to Formello in recent weeks.
Cancellieri Willing to Join Brentford
Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina is also reporting the same story, adding that Cancellieri is open to joining Brentford. The high-flying Premier League boys sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United last summer and replaced him with club-record signing Dango Ouattara, but they might be seeking another option for the right wing, as they continue to push for a historic European qualification.

If this does go through, to me, it proves we have completely given up on this season and we are happy to coast mid table and make profits with the excuse of rebuilding. I don’t know what to say but I will find it difficult to watch matches this way knowing there isn’t much incentive for us to win..
Errr, we’ve always been “a mid-table club”. Do you think we’re on Inter, Juventus, Milan or even Napoli level?
Those 4 are the big guns, while us also #ASRomaMerda are below them.
Can Lotito really be that stupid? 🤔
Devastating, honestly. Whoever we buy we will sell eventually. A rather passionate team turned into a farm.
This season, we just be watching lazio games knowing we just playing to avoid relegation. We not in it for anything
Bro, off topic did you see Guondozi scored in the Turkish Derby vs Galatasaray ? Lol
I’m curious what you think coz I know you was happy to see him leave…
