Lazio Management Irritated by Constant Maurizio Sarri Jabs

The power struggle at Lazio is hardly a hidden secret at this stage, with Claudio Lotito and Maurizio Sarri repeatedly trading barbs.

Maurizio Sarri Unhappy with Lazio Situation

Needless to say, the head coach has been displeased with all the bumps he had been enduring since rejoining the club last summer, beginning with the transfer ban. The 67-year-old reiterated that he decided to stay at Formello out of loyalty to the players and the fanbase, but can’t make any promises beyond June.

Sarri Hasn’t Been Impressed with Lazio’s January Business

In recent weeks, the management succeeded in lifting the transfer ban, but this only created a further rift between the hierarchy and Sarri, who hasn’t been in favor of the club’s January dealings, to say the least. The former Napoli boss publicly rued Matteo Guendouzi’s departure and admitted he knows little about his new players, Petar Ratkov and Kenneth Taylor.

As Il Messaggero notes, Sarri was initially promised he’d have the final word on new signings, but this hasn’t necessarily been the case. For instance, the coach had requested the arrivals of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Giacomo Raspadori (or Giovane), but the club hasn’t been able to satisfy his demands.

The Lazio Deals Sarri Didn’t Like

Lotito responded to the manager’s remarks by stating that the management is responsible for choosing the new players, while the coach only has to… coach them.

Sarri Aims New Digs at Lazio Hierarchy: ”Always in Year Zero, They’re Not Even Close”

Following Sunday’s win over Hellas Verona, Sarri explicitly said that the hierarchy has at times failed to recruit the right profiles suitable for his playing system, not to mention several other digs he aimed at the club president and sporting director Angelo Fabiani.

Claudio Lotito Not Amused by Sarri’s Digs

Therefore, the Roman newspaper reveals that Lotito and Co. have been irritated by Sarri’s constant jabs, especially since the management hasn’t put any pressure on him this season, and has avoided setting any objectives related to European qualification.

At this stage, the January transfer campaign remains a work in progress, but the final outcome could have major implications on the already-strained relationship between Lazio’s president and his head coach.

  1. I blame sarri, Lotito is not known to keep his promises and yet you decided to sign. You know the man why complain.. shut up and coach or just leave AGAIN

  2. Not only Sarri, there should be no Laziale feels satisfied with Lotito’s famous stingy trading style. Everyone is staying just for the love to Lazio, I am so sick of Lotito.

  3. You can’t blame Sarri for being upset. Lazio has failed to make a single improving move in the transfer market. You could argue Taylor is an upgrade of Guendo, but otherwise… these are all lateral moves for Lotito to sell young players once they improve for capital gains.

    1. Kenneth Taylor being better than Guendouzi, I find highly questionable. He wasn’t making Ajax much better while playing in a questionable league. High stamina and two footed, but not the greatest player.

  4. Selling players at good money and buying replacements at half the price can only go one way.
    I don’t blame Sarri.

  5. Both Lotito & Sarri are to blame.
Lotito for his loud mouth, empty promises & cheap pocket. And Sarri for complaining too much to cover his failure.
Look, he coulda, or shoulda walked away when he found out Lotito had lied to him, yet he decided to stay “for the love of Lazio (yeah right)”, but probably because he needed the paycheck.
Besides, once he gets sacked, he’ll still receive his severance anyway.

    Lotito’s pain is Sarri’s gain.

    1. Can you blame him? He knows exactly what Loftus Cheek could bring, he could make him our new SMS but Lotito is too cheap

  6. Mr Sarri will leave with his head held high in the summer. I can see a subscription boycott next season to force the pig’s hand.
