Sarri Could Immediately Resign if Lazio Sell Key Defender

The potential sale of Alessio Romagnoli could prove to be the final straw in the increasingly tense relationship between Lazio and Maurizio Sarri.

The Background

The 67-year-old made his return to Formello last summer after 15 months on the shelf. However, his comeback was swiftly blighted by a transfer ban that forced him to work with a squad filled with players who don’t possess the required characteristics to interpret his style of play.

Maurizio Sarri Unhappy with Lazio’s January Business

Even with the transfer ban now behind us, the manager hasn’t been impressed with the hierarchy’s operations on the market. He lamented the departure of Matteo Guendouzi and admitted he knew little about the new signings, Petar Ratkov and Kenneth Taylor. The Tuscan also aimed several digs at the management, which reportedly irked Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

Sarri could walk out of Lazio if Alessio Romagnoli is Sold

At the start of the season, Sarri had promised to stick by the club at least until the end of the season out of loyalty to the fanbase. But according to Il Messaggero, the head coach would reconsider this stance should the club deprive him of Romagnoli, a player whom he considers untouchable.

Lotito’s Broken Promise for Romagnoli

The defender has been displeased with the treatment he received from the club, as Lotito and Co. have yet to fulfil the promise they made him when he joined the club in 2022, when he was told that qualifying for the Champions League would earn him a pay raise. The Italian defender played his part, with the club finishing second in the 2022/23 table, but the directors didn’t keep their word.

Romagnoli Offered to Al-Sadd

As the source explains, Romagnoli’s entourage has grown impatient as they’re still waiting for a call from Lazio, so they have offered his services to Qatari giants Al-Sadd, coached by Roberto Mancini. Nevertheless, the Biancocelesti have been warned about selling the 31-year-old, as Sarri would consider an immediate resignation in this case.

  1. Wow! This is just perfect loTITO! Sell him and get rid of Sarri… What a master plan. There’s no more to say…

  2. I understand Lazio is in a financial crisis, but they sold Taty and Guendo for 60m and brought in Taylor, and Ratkov for 23m. 37m remaining in profit, and they’re remaining active on the transfer market… The financial situation can’t be that bad? Why would we sell a top 5 player? Sarri has done a great job so far, why blow this up?

    1. Sarri, has done a great Job?? What are you drinking?? 28 points in 20 matches, is embarrassing..

  3. 🤣🤣…lazio can only get better if lotito sells the club and get his cheap ass out. If that dsnt happen, dnt get ur hopes high of anything… that madafckr is only interested in making money and making lazio an average club. His not interested in wining anything. How difficult is it to renew the contract of ur key defender and ur 1st choice player! Beats my imagination

  4. Lotito you are absolutely shameless. I start to hate you and that’s difficult to achieve. SELL THE CLUB !!!

  5. Absolutely correct. Lotito is toxic to the future of Lazio, he is not the one willing to spend nor developing the youth academy, how can Lazio survive the strict competition with other EU clubs? How brilliant Lazio was in 90s and 2000. Lotito instead keeps celebrating he has won a lot Coppa Italia, how ambitious he is.

  6. Fans need to stop attending home games completely until he leaves.

What better way to get him out?

    1. 30.000+ season tickets bought without European football, I think its fair to say the fans will be there.. aka the liar will never sell
