Lazio have reportedly identified rising Elche star Rodrigo Mendoza as their primary target to bolster the middle of the park. After selling Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce, the Aquile signed Kenneth Taylor from Ajax. But since the Dutchman is left-footed, they still need a new right-footed midfielder to replace the Frenchman.

Bournemouth Prevail in Alex Toth Race

Lazio initially set their sights on Alex Toth, and managed to strike an agreement with his entourage. However, they couldn’t close the deal with Ferenvaros, who are now on the cusp of selling the player to Bournemouth, according to several reports across Europe, including Gianluca Di Marzio. The Italian capital side also failed to lure Quinten Timber, who is holding out for a Premier League move.

Lazio Preparing Onslaught for Elche Midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are now eyeing a move for Mendoza, a 20-year-old midfielder who rose through the ranks of Elche and is now considered one of the hottest prospects in LaLiga. The Murcia native is a box-to-box midfielder who is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder. This season, he has contributed with two goals and one assist in 17 appearances in all competitions.

How Much Would Mendoza Cost Lazio

The Spain U21 starlet has been on a steady rise since last season, when his displays captivated Cesc Fabregas, who tried to bring him to Como last summer but to no avail. Mendoza’s contract with Elche is valid until June 2028, but it includes a release clause worth €20 million. The Roman newspaper reveals that Lazio will try to negotiate a deal in the region of €15 million.

Lazio Are Already Familiar with Mendoza’s Agent

The source also mentions that the youngster shares the same agent with Alfonso Pedraza, the 29-year-old left-back who has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Biancocelesti next summer on a free transfer once his deal with Villarreal expires. Therefore, Lazio are hoping that their relationship with the player’s representative will give them a significant edge.

  1. We could end up with more Mendozas than Argentina .
At least we’re on the hunt and in the market. There’s teams that have signed nobody

  2. I don’t see this happening. Some bigger club will activate the €20 million release clause and Lazio will be left empty-handed again.
