Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli is edging ever closer to the exit door, while Maurizio Sarri could follow suit.

Alessio Romagnoli No Longer Content at Lazio

The 31-year-old has been unhappy with his situation at the club, as Claudio Lotito infamously backtracked on his promise to raise his salary after helping the club qualify for the Champions League in 2023.

Since the start of the month, the former AC Milan captain has been linked with a move to Al-Sadd, the Qatari giants coached by Roberto Mancini. Last week, Romagnoli’s agent, Enzo Raiola, admitted that he and his client are ‘looking around’, but insisted that the centre-back won’t play for another Italian club out of respect for his beloved Lazio.

Al-Sadd Working on Closing the Gap with Lazio for Romagnoli

According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Al-Sadd have offered the defender a lucrative contract that would allow him to collect €20 million over the course of three campaigns. However, the Arabic club has offered the Biancocelesti a transfer fee of €5 million, while the Italian capital side is holding out at €8 million. So it remains to be seen if the two parties will be able to bridge the gap.

In the meantime, Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) have reiterated that Romagnoli’s sale could prompt Sarri’s immediate resignation. The 67-year-old’s relationship with Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani has taken several hits over the past few weeks, as illustrated by the back-and-forth media jabs.

Could Maurizio Sarri Follow Romagnoli to the Exit Door?

While the head coach had previously pledged to remain at least until the end of the season out of loyalty to the players and the fanbase, the Roman newspaper claims that the departure of his defensive lieutenant could make him reconsider his stance.

  1. So Romagnoli would leave becoz lotito wont pay him the 3mill den sarri would follow and lazio would go and bring a coach from paskistan division 3 to coach the team…u can trust lotito😁

  2. Why are we even bothering? Just sign some serie B players, at least they will be italian and hopefully young. Lotito would that be cool? You could save money

  3. We had our days when we got incredibly lucky with transfers like immobile sms fa la, but this disaster class downfall really needs to be studied. I really feel we could have built a solid foundation again with Sarri but looks like Latata likes his gambles.
It’s a shame to see our disgusting neighbour rebuild with a good plan while Latata is just hoping to hit another wave of jackpots. Well I hope we win some so that we don’t go back to the Filipini dark ages…

    1. Have we made a mistake letting Tare go? Yes, his recent Muriciesque deals weren’t the first est but at least he got 1 put of 3 right..even Rovella was him wasn’t it? Plus he was able to sort of pursue Lotito better than our Fabiani clown nowadays
