Lazio and Atalanta are currently finalizing the transfer of Daniel Maldini, who should become the Aquile’s third January signing.
The Background
The 24-year-old has been on Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist for quite some time. The Lazio sporting director favors him over the ageing Lorenzo Insigne, whom Maurizio Sarri originally requested for the role of Mattia Zaccagni’s understudy.
Daniel Maldini Close to Joining Lazio
While this track cooled down in recent weeks, the Biancocelesti launched a new onslaught over the weekend. According to some of the most reliable sources in the Italian press, Maldini is on the verge of joining Lazio.
The Figures & Formula
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reveals that the deal is ‘almost done’, while his colleague, Gianluca Di Marzio, reveals that the third-generation star will complete a loan deal until the end of the season for €1 million, with an option to buy for €13-14 million, which would become an obligation under certain conditions.

Sky Sport Italia adds that the two clubs are working to reach a full agreement in the coming hours, so the player could arrive in Rome as early as Monday. In this case, Maldini should be at Sarri’s disposal for Friday’s Serie A fixture against Genoa, which will take place at the Stadio Olimpico.
Maldini’s Career Path
The Italian international started his career at AC Milan’s academy. Following loan spells at Spezia and Empoli, he joined Monza in January 2024, and cemented himself as a key player for the Biancorossi, which earned him a transfer to Atalanta last winter. However, he has been left frustrated by the lack of playing time at Bergamo, and is now looking to revitalize his career elsewhere.

At least there is option to buy and if he miraculously turns out better than expected it can turn into obligation, however I don’t see that happening … prove me wrong Daniele, clear your name and bring it on
Quick question: how does this loan thing work? Do we pay the milion but Atalanta still cover his salary whilst with us or we do both and the milion is on top of the wage? If anyone knows I would appreciate it
