Lazio are reportedly tracking young Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, who proved decisive in the Champions League victory over Real Madrid.

Lazio Still Working on More January Arrivals

The Aquile have already made four signings in January, bringing in Petar Ratkov, Kenneth Taylor, Edoardo Motta, and Daniel Maldini. Moreover, 19-year-old Polish attacking midfielder Adrian Przyborek is expected to complete his transfer from Pogon in the coming hours. And yet, Angelo Fabiani is still seeking new opportunities on the market.

Lazio to Launch Onslaught for Andreas Schjelderup

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Lazio are willing to make a ‘significant offer’ for Schjelderup. The Biancocelesti had made contact with the 21-year-old on Tuesday and Wednesday, prior to his heroics against Real Madrid. The youngster scored a brace in the dramatic 4-2 victory over Los Merengues, which earned the Eagles a last-gasp spot in the Champions League play-offs.

Schjelderup was available on the market at the start of the week, but the journalist explains that Benfica are now keen to extend his contract. Nevertheless, Lazio are still determined to recruit his services, so it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to make a breakthrough in their negotiations with the Lisbon-based club.

Schjelderup’s Background, Contract, Playing Role & Stats

The young Norwegian began his career at his hometown club, Bodo/Glimt, before joining Danish side Nordsjaelland. In January 2023, Benfica bought him for €9 million. The Portuguese giants have him under contract until June 2028, and the deal includes a €100 million release clause and 20% sell-on fee in favor of Nordsjaelland.

Schjelderup is a right-footed player who mainly plays as an inverted left winger, but can also operate as a centre-forward. This season, he has thus far made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
