Alessio Romagnoli has once again failed to convince Lazio to grant him leave, as his transfer to Al-Sadd has virtually collapsed.
Alessio Romagnoli Has Been Keen to Join Al-Sadd
The 31-year-old has been hellbent on leaving the club as his relationship with the hierarchy has gradually plummeted due to Claudio Lotito’s broken promises over an improved salary. Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd offered him a safe haven, along with a lucrative three-year deal and a yearly salary of €6 million.

Romagnoli accepted the Qatari proposal, and he had expected Lazio to do the same after receiving an offer worth circa €9 million. However, the Italian capital side made a shocking U-turn last Sunday by announcing that the player is no longer on the market.
Romagnoli Tried to Push His Way Out of Lazio By Any Means
The defender has been trying to find a solution, but he’s running out of time, as the transfer market in Qatar closes at 19:00 CET on Saturday. The Roman player sought Maurizio Sarri, but the head coach refused to give the green light himself, as he wouldn’t want to be held accountable for the choice.
Lazio Refuse Romagnoli Exit Pleas
According to Alfredo Pedullà, Romagnoli launched a last-ditch attempt, requesting a meeting with the Lazio management. The summit took place on Saturday, but as the journalist explains, the centre-back ran into an ‘impenetrable wall’. The source adds that the player could resume training with his teammates next week, but this saga will leave an indelible mark on his relationship with the club.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also believes that Romagnoli’s transfer to Al-Sadd has all but collapsed, as finding a breakthrough in the few remaining hours is highly unlikely. It remains to be seen how this new development will affect Portuguese defender Diogo Leite, who was said to be close to sealing a transfer from Union Berlin to Lazio.
