Lazio president Claudio Lotito has emphasized the importance of winning the Coppa Italia, especially in this most unusual season for the club.

Claudio Lotito Seeks Coppa Italia Glory

The 68-year-old is currently enduring the most challenging period of his presidency since buying the club almost 22 years ago. More than 40,000 fans have already signed a petition requesting his departure.

Nevertheless, the stubborn Italian senator remains unrelenting (at least in public), and three days following his appearance at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, he’s expected to show up at the Renato Dell’Ara on Wednesday to support his players who will take on Bologna in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, a competition he now considers the main priority of the campaign.

Lotito Offers Lazio Players €2m Coppa Italia Bonus

According to Il Messaggero, Lotito has already allocated a bonus of €2 million to be distributed among players if they manage to clinch the domestic cup this season. As the source notes, Lazio have never failed to qualify for Europe twice in a row under Lotito’s ownership, so the patron is desperate to avoid this unpleasant scenario.

Lazio’s Serie A Woes

At the moment, Lazio sit 8th in the Serie A table, eight points adrift of the sixth spot currently occupied by Como, who also have a match in hand. Therefore, the Biancocelesti’s chances of guaranteeing a place in Europe through their league standing remain slim. While the 7th place could prove enough, catching the in-form Atalanta (who are six points ahead) remain a difficult task as well.

Lazio Coppa Italia Path

Realistically speaking, the Aquile’s are more likely to carve out a path to Europe through the Coppa Italia. They have already beaten AC Milan in the Round of 16, and if they manage to eliminate the title holders on Wednesday, they will book themselves a place in the semi-finals against Atalanta and edge one step closer to earning their first piece of silverware since the 2019/20 campaign.

  1. Good luck with that.

With such a limited squad the odds are not high.

The best thing that can happen to Lazio is to not win anything to get him closer to sell.

  2. I would love to see the departure of this Romanista rather than Lazio winning the coppa italia this year. Short term pain is for long term gain, Lazio needs to get rid of this miser.

  3. Heh, with this team?? Forget it. Wishful thinking. Quality is simply not there. Midfield is the weakest in many decades and there is no profilic goalscorer. Even with Taty and Guendo we wouldn’t be favourites. Path to final would be fairly okay-ish if we had a decent team like 3 years ago.

If owner wants to qualify for Europe he should have invested much better on transfer market. It is ridiculos to remove tyre from a car, put there a spare and then ask driver to win the race.
