Ahead of Wednesday’s big Coppa Italia showdown, Lazio were hoping to lift their spirts with a win over Torino, but they returned to Rome empty handed, as Roberto D’Aversa marked his Granata debut with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Giovanni Simeone and Duvan Zapata in each half.

Here are our player ratings for Lazio who were outplayed by their hosts Torino on Sunday evening.

Lazio XI (4-3-3)

Ivan Provedel – 5.5

The shot-stopper was part of the mix-up that culminated in the opener. He couldn’t get close enough to the ball on Zapata’s header, but produced a couple of good saves on Simeone and Nikola Vlasic.

Adam Marusic – 5

An shaky peformance from the Montenegrin who left Cancellieri alone against two opponents in the buildup for the opener.

Alessio Romagnoli – 6

The former Milan captain was the most solid Lazio defender on Sunday, but some might accuse him of failing to preoperly organize the backline.

Oliver Provstgaard – 5.5

The Dane won several aerial duels, but was eventually beaten by the powerful Zapata on the second goal.

Luca Pellegrini – 4.5

A disappointing display from the left-back, who was the main culprit on the opener, as he failed to clear the ball or prevent Simeone from reaching it. He made some important blocks afterwards, but the damage had already been done.

Reda Belahyane – 5.5

A mixed bag from the Moroccan, who made some daring runs in the middle, but wasted possession too many times for Sarri’s liking, which may have prompted his half-time exit.

Danilo Cataldi – 5

The Lazio Regista lost the plot, especially in the second half. He was second best to Vlasic and Co.

Kenneth Taylor – 5.5

The former Ajax ran his socks off, but did not provide the required quality in either phase of the game.

Matteo Cancellieri – 5.5

The Italian worked hard while chasing the ball, but Lazio fans were expecting more than discipline from the talented winger.

Petar Ratkov – 5

The Serbian’s highlight was winning back possession on one occasion. His attacking threat was almost non-existent, and he was never provided with proper service.

Mattia Zaccagni – 5.5

The Lazio captain set up Belahyane’s first-half chance with a clever cut back, but it was still another sub-display considering his standards.

Substitutes

Tijjani Noslin – 5.5

The Dutch attacker was more dynamic that Ratkov, but not enough to trouble Torino’s defences.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – 5

The Nigerian was arguably a downgrade on Belahyane. Lazio completely lost the midfield battle following his introduction.

Gustav Isaksen – 5

The Dane had little to no impact on the game.

Nuno Tavares – 6.5

The Portuguese is becoming Sarri’s most best super-sup. His introduction set the left flank ablaze, as he provided his teammates with promising opportunities that went begging.

Boulaye Dia – N/A

  1. Lottotito and Fabiani have managed to drive Lazio down to a lower middle class team. Tare left early because he saw the signs of what was coming. The situation is terrible, the fans have abandoned the team.

  2. Sarri looks like he’s completely given up. One of the flattest matches I’ve ever watched, no spark, no fight, nothing. The whole team looks mentally checked out, and this kind of performance is going to hurt us for seasons. We’re not beating Atalanta, and even if we somehow got past them, we wouldn’t beat Como either. Expect the worst, because right now even our best isn’t enough.

Honestly thinking of taking a break from this for a bit. Hope’s gone. Even if we magically won the Coppa, we all know we wouldn’t invest properly, it would be another summer of gambles. The only thing you can say about Lotito is he’s a great businessman who knows how to make money… but that’s about it.

  3. At this stage not playing Nuno is criminal, I don’t know what Sarri was thinking starting Pellegrini. As for the rest of the team, I don’t care for the reasons, they were simply piss poor.

  4. A reboot is needed. The motivation is low. The formation lacks a change to even give a surprise to the opponents. Too many mediocre players with poor first touches and creativity.

But Lotito must be removed first, or nothing good will happen.
