At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Lazio prevailed over Sassuolo by two goals to one thanks to an extremely late winner.
Daniel Maldini broke the deadlock after just two minutes, but Armand Lauriente restored parity in the 35th minute. Nevertheless, the Biancocelesti were keen to return to winning ways, and they eventually managed to do so thanks to Adam Marusic’s 92nd-minute header.
So, here are our player ratings for Lazio, who ended their four-match winless run in Serie A by beating Sassuolo 2-1.
Lazio XI (4-3-3)
Edoardo Motta – 5.5
The Lazio debutant showed his lack of experience with hesitant reactions on two awkward balls. He also made an unconvincing save on Lauriente’s bouncing shot, but did much better on Josh Doig’s rebound. Couldn’t do anything about the equalizer.
Adam Marusic – 7
The Montenegrin has been on a slump recently, but he rebounded with a solid all-around display. Held his ground against the tricky Lauriente, and settled the game by nodding home the last-gasp winner.
Mario Gila – 7.5
The Spaniard reminded the world why he’s so highly-regarded and has a host of top suitors. Made a series of outstanding interventions and tackles at the back, and was incredibly dangerous when charging forward. Put Isaksen through on goal with an outrageous defence-splitting pass.
Alessio Romagnoli – 5.5
The experienced Italian defender couldn’t block Lauriente’s shot on the equalizer. He may have sustained an injury, as he was replaced at the interval.
Nuno Tavares – 6
The Portuguese full-back looked dangerous with his daring runs down the left flank, but his delivery left much to be desired.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – 6
The Nigerian was guilty of wasting a glorious chance that would have given Lazio a two-goal cushion. Nevertheless, he won back possession on several occasions and played a role in the winner.
Danilo Cataldi – 6
The Lazio stalwart was enjoying a solid if unspectacular outing in the middle of the park before suffering a knock that aggravated the club’s wounds.
Kenneth Taylor – 6.5
The Dutchman is Lazio’s ‘Mr. Consistency’. Set up Dele-Bashiru’s early chance with a clever pass, and offered contributions all over the pitch.
Gustav Isaksen – 6
The Dane started the game on a brilliant note, instigating the opener with a daring run. He also had two first-half opportunities that went begging. However, he will be kicking himself for failing to beat Arijanet Muric, which was his last action before his exit.
Daniel Maldini – 6.5
The Atalanta loanee kept his composure to open his account for Lazio with a simple tap-in. He almost instigated a second goal by pouncing on a loose ball, but Dele-Bashiru fluffed his shot. His impact dwindled as the match progressed.
Mattia Zaccagni – 5.5
The Lazio captain won countless fouls as usual, but the fans are expecting more from the tricky winger. Cut a frustrated figure and vented on his teammates on a few occasions.
Substitutes
Patric – 5.5
The defender was tasked with the Regista role following Cataldi’s injury. He either frustrated the fans with his backward passes or wasted possession with his lack of precision. It wasn’t his fault, though.
Oliver Provstgaard – 6
The Dane wasn’t too clean in possession, but he handled himself well against Nzola.
Boulaye Dia – 5.5
The Senegalese striker didn’t make himself noticed during his cameo.
Matteo Cancellieri – 7
A super-sub display from the Italian winger who made a major impact despite his limited playing time. He almost instantly scored with a wonderful curler that was denied by Muric, but he ended up providing the assist for Marusic’s winner.
Pedro – N/A
Finally a win. As for Isaksen, he clearly lacks stamina and clarity in the final move; he should be used as a super sub.
But he’s still better than Zaccagni. When was the last time he made a real difference? What a disappointment.
True, Noslin should get .ore playing time and maybe Zaccagni gets back some confidence when coming on late and a higher chance of cutting through a defence that’s a bit exhausted for him compared to having played against him from the start. Also Noslin and Maldini could have a good rapport as they seems both to be technically good.
For me Patric wasn’t as bad as his rating here and Motta was understandably nervous, I think he will do well next match.
Also I believe Noslin-Tavares is a better combo than Zaccagni-Tavares ! We would be more attack minded and as a result Taylor could have an even bigger impact especially in tight spaces with Noslin, him and Maldini combining (he had 24 touches this match i. The final 3rd of the field, that would grow co siderably even higher) however we would need a Rovella to keep the middle defence role covered and without Cataladi either, I bet Sarri will make us even more defensive…
