Lazio Facing Contract Chaos as Nine Players on 2027 Deadline

Nine Lazio players could become free agents in the summer of 2027, but Claudio Lotito is showing no signs of panic.

The Biancocelesti are currently enjoying their best run of the season, winning three on the trot at the expense of Sassuolo, AC Milan, and Bologna. Therefore, punters could be encouraged to back Maurizio Sarri’s men to go all the way in the Coppa Italia, especially if provided with enticing betting welcome offers. However, most bookmakers consider them the ultimate underdogs of the tournament’s semi-finals.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio owner Lotito is trying to do his part by offering the player lucrative bonuses for winning the domestic cup, and also if they manage to extend their Serie A winning streak to five.

On the other hand, the patron has decided to delay all contract talks until the end of the season. At the moment, only three Biancocelesti are running on contracts expiring at the end of the season, as Adam Marusic has already penned a new deal. Pedro and Elseid Hysaj are heading towards the exit door, while Toma Basic is the only one who still has a chance of extending his stay beyond June.

Nevertheless, the club will be facing a more concerning situation starting next season, as nine players are currently running on contracts expiring in June 2027. So let’s take a closer look at each case and predict the most likely outcome.

Matteo Cancellieri

After a positive start to the season, the Italian winger hasn’t had the same impact after returning from injury. He has already lost his starting berth to Gustav Isaksen, so Lazio will be happy to cash in on his services for the right offer.

Danilo Cataldi

The Lazio youth product isn’t the most technically gifted or the strongest, but he remains a loyal servant to the cause. One would imagine that the two parties would be able to reach a swift agreement. Sarri would certainly try to keep him if he himself stays.

Samuel Gigot

The French defender had a so-so campaign in 2024/25, but he hasn’t been able to find his fitness since the summer. At this stage, the management could consider rescinding his contract just to get rid of his salary.

Mario Gila

With half of Europe on his trail, the Spaniard is highly unlikely to sign a new contract with Lazio, especially with the modest figures proposed by Lotito. The Biancocelesti’s best hope is to ignite a bidding war and share the spoils with Real Madrid.

Manuel Lazzari

Lazio desperately need a younger right-back, and it is past time for Lazzari to make way. Several mid-table clubs would be interested in his services.

Patric

Although the Lazio stalwart has been struggling for fitness in recent years, he is still capable of producing convincing displays, even as a Regista. But it remains unclear if it will be sufficient to earn him a new contract.

Luca Pellegrini

With Alfonso Pedraza on his way in the summer, either Luca Pellegrini or Nuno Tavares will be on the move in the summer. Based on the current evidence, the Italian is more likely to be deemed surplus to requirements, unless the management plans to make some profit from selling his Portuguese teammate.

Ivan Provedel

Despite Edoardo Motta’s inspiring start, Lazio shouldn’t jump the gun and offload Ivan Provedel. The veteran should be kept for at least another season before making a decision on his future.

Alessio Romagnoli

The defender is said to be betrothed to Al-Sadd following January’s soap opera. But even if the circumstances prevent him from landing in Doha, his broken rapport with Lotito could prompt him to push towards the exit door.

  1. Getting rid of all those players seems to me to be quite a good plan. Perhaps giving Cataldi a multiple year contract on a severely reduced salary, as a protector of the Lazio culture. I’d like to see. Cancellieri if we can keep him definitely believe we should, age+transfer worth.

    Don’t you think so MichaelSakr?

Gila we can’t keep, Romagnoli too high of a salary. Provedel could stay but on a fair amount of money. Lazzari high salary and doesn’t represent transfer value. Patric also represents no value. Gigot quicker we get rid off the better for the same reason+ never having proven to be good enough. Pellegrini can probably be replaced by someone younger who’s better and cheaper.
