Lazio are reportedly tracking young Dinamo Zagreb defender Sergi Dominguez, who could be Mario Gila’s successor in the Italian capital.

Lazio Need a Replacement for Mario Gila

The Biancocelesti are expected to part ways with the 25-year-old, whose contract will expire in June 2027, and has a host of suitors in Italy and Europe vying for his services. Interestingly, the Spaniard could be replaced by yet another Barcelona native. But while Gila rose through the ranks of Real Madrid, Dominguez developped his game at Barca’s famous La Masia academy.

The 22-year-old was sold to Dinamo Zagreb last summer for €1.2 million. The young defender has already cemented himself as a regular starter in the Croatian capital, making 39 appearances across all competitions this season. He scored two goals and provided three assists in the process.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile have added Dominguez to their defensive shortlist. Lazio are currently following a host of centre-backs, including left-footed players who could fill in for Alessio Romagnoli (like Diogo Leite and Lautaro Rivero), and right-footed defenders to replace Gila (like Lautaro Di Lollo and Kevin Lomonaco).

Dominguez is currently running on a contract valid until June 2029. Transfermarkt estimates his value at €2.5 million, but Dinamo Zagreb are likely to request a higher figure for the defender who had made six appearances for Barcelona’s senior team before leaving the Catalan giants.
