Lazio Regista Nicolo Rovella is working his way back to full fitness, and his objective is to start in the Coppa Italia final against Inter Milan.
The Background
The Segrate native cemented himself as a key player at the club last season under Marco Baroni, but he’s been enduring a torrid time with injuries this term. His campaign began with a groin issue that he tried to overcome through alternative therapy before eventually succumbing to surgery in November.
The 24-year-old returned to action in January, only to suffer a broken collarbone from a nasty fall during Lazio’s away contest against Cagliari in February, which required yet another surgical intervention.
Nicolo Rovella Recovers From Shoulder Injury
While many thought his campaign was practically over, Rovella earned a surprise call-up in Monday’s Serie A contest against Udinese. Although he remained an unused substitute during the chaotic 3-3 draw, Maurizio Sarri later revealed he had intended to play the Italian midfielder, but had to bring in Nuno Tavares as his last substitute because he was worried about Luca Pellegrini, who was on a yellow.
Rovella Hoping to Start for Lazio Against Inter Milan
According to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Rovella will be keen to earn some minutes this Monday against Cremonese, with the aim of breaking into the starting lineup for the Coppa Italia final against Inter Milan, which will be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 13.
Lazio’s Alternative Regista Choices
Interestingly, the two finalists will meet for a dress rehearsal in Serie A four days earlier, which represents another opportunity for the Genoa youth product to shake off the rust. Danilo Cataldi has acted as Lazio’s main deep-lying playmaker this season in Rovella’s absence, while Patric has done well in this makeshift role in recent weeks.
Inter Milan Are Longtime Admirers of Rovella
The source also recalls that Inter had set their sights on Rovella last summer, so a solid performance against them in the final could rekindle the flame, especially with the Italian champions-elect still seeking a long-term heir for Hakan Calhanoglu, who is likewise struggling with injuries this season.

Thanks for this article, it confirms everything I thought and hope about Rovella maybe even more. It is a race against the clock now but we must play it safe. Rovella playing 30-40 min vs Cremonese seems a good target and another 30-45 min in the league vs Inter should allow him to get optimal fitness level for the final. I will pray for him to get what he wishes (and we all do) 🩵🤍
I wanted to go to this match, just checked the flights to Rome from London and they’re quite cheap but a single ticket in the distinti would cost me close to €300 which is like £270 so I say pass. How on earth are they reselling a ticket that cost approximately €60 for 5x that? On a league match I would just go without a ticket and buy on the spot at the stadium or from someone at the entrance but now it would be too much a gamble.
Anyway, I feel sad to miss out on this one even if we don’t win coz it will be a cracking atmosphere.
Avanti Lazio🩵🤍
LOL we are Inter’s feeder club, huh?
Vattene Inter !!!
