Lazio have reportedly secured an agreement with Gennaro Gattuso, who will replace Atalanta-bound Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri All Set for Atalanta
Sarri’s departure has been in the air for quite some time, as it became evident that he and Lazio president Claudio Lotito can no longer coexist. The 67-year-old man was initially approached by his former employers Napoli, who are seeking a replacement for Antonio Conte, who has announced his depature on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Napoli’s former sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, managed to sway Sarri, convincing him to join him at Atalanta, who are set to part ways with Raffaele Palladino. The young tactician emerged as a top choice for the vacant Lazio hot seat, but he has been surpassed by Gattuso in recent hours.
Gattuso Ready to Take Over at Lazio
It now appears that the legendary AC Milan midfielder has found an agreement with Lotito, who has long appreciated his profile.
The 48-year-old has been unattached since leaving the Italian national team following the World Cup playoffs failure. His past coaching experiences include stints at Milan, Napoli, and Marseille. He has only won one trophy thus far: The 2019/20 Coppa Italia with the Partenopei when football restarted after the Covid-19 stoppage.
Two-Year Contract for Gattuso
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports that talks between Gattuso and Lazio have been ongoing for days, and that the two parties are now ironing out the last remaining details in their agreement. The Calabrian will be expected to sign a two-year deal, but the Biancocelesti must first terminate Sarri’s contract.

From all the options that were on the table, Lotito made sure to pick the worst one… Rino won’t last a season. As is his standard. Valencia, Marseille, Split, Italy. One flop after another. Seriously I CANNOT think of a worse choice. Even Pioli or Tudor would be slightly better choices than this.
Huh?
Pioli & Tudor are no better than Gattuso.
Palladino is obviously free now, Lotito shoulda hired him instead of Gattuso.
It’s like someone asks Lotito to pick between a GR Yaris & Wuling, and Lotito chooses the Wuling.
It’s a bit of an odd move, but there are some positives:
Gattuso (historically) likes to play a 4-4-2, or 4-3-3 which bodes well for the squad.
He wants to be competitive as there were reports that he snubbed Torino for Lazio.
He’s (most likely) much cheaper than Sarri was which frees up some funds.
He’s fiery and will challenge Lotito, which could be good or bad… depends on how the summer goes.
Within 4 months the first public row? Or how long do you think it will take? 😆
Anyway, I know some people might disagree but if Gattuso manages a 6-8 position next season. I think he has done well. Lots of key players will leave the club, a new system and players need to be introduced.
Haha I’m sure we’ll have new Gattuso memes in no time.
Agreed. He wouldn’t have been my first choice, but I don’t think he’s as bad as people are making him out to be. He’s player friendly which will be helpful in keeping morale up
4 months?
I’d say 2 or 3 months LOL.
God, please no, everything but no him.
He is more flexible in his formations than Sarri. He has used 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1. Let’s see what happens.
When is he succesful for you? I think being flexible definitely is key to success.
When would this end? When would we hear that pep guadiola has left man city to sign with LAZIO, when would we hear that kalian mbappe has been signed on loan from real madrid to LAZIO? I MEAN WHEN. Gone were the days when lazio could boats of world finest players in its starting ’11’..now what we have is a bunch of low grade players and a cheap ass Oldman who would let go off lazio.. we can all but hope that it would be good one day. But honestly, it cant continue to be like this. Gattuso to lazio? Like WTF…
Lazio was briefly on-top during Cragnotti, who took massive economic risk at both Lazio and Cirio. He obviously won the second scudetto and european glory. But it came at a high cost. Lotito came in as plumber solving the leaks. At some point Lazio did great again and would’ve likely won the 3rd scudetto had it not been for Covid.
I can’t tell you what to do, but expecting to win the champions league or even winning the Serie A, likely won’t happen unless this club sells its soul to some conglomerate or a sheik. I saw Lazio lose not win a single game in the I believe first seven matches, that I saw the team play live. Lazio is what it is, we all support or are fan of clubs for different reasons.
But mentioning Mbappe and Guardiola in relation to Lazio. Is to me one bridge too far, Caligula levels.
That is ridiculous. Not a single team in Italy can bring Mbappé. If Inter and Juve combine their funds they don’t have enough to buy any TOP 5 player in the world. Neither Mbappé, nor Haaland, Yamal, Olise, Rice… Plus this is not only about Lazio. Whole Serie A is going down year after year. We are 4th best league and only because French Ligue 1 has even bigger economic problems than Serie A. But Bundesliga and La Liga are already so far ahead of us that they are uncatchable and EPL is completely different universe. There is not single world class team in Italy. Germany has Bayern, France has PSG, Spain Real and Barca and England has plenty. Inter is nowhere near that level. Top players won’t come to such a league in their prime. So Mbappé might come to Lazio, when he will be 38 like Modrić or Vardy.
