Lazio have reached a full agreement with Gennaro Gattuso, who will soon be appointed as the club’s new head coach.

Maurizio Sarri All Set to Terminate Lazio Contract

The Biancocelesti are on the verge of parting ways with Maurizio Sarri after a tumultuous campaign blighted by severe issues on and off the pitch. The 67-year-old manager constantly traded barbs with club president Claudio Lotito in the media, so a separation became inevitable. Sarri is now expected to sign for Atalanta.

Gennaro Gattuso Will Be Appointed New Lazio Manager

The Italian capital side was linked with several managerial candidates, especially Raffaele Palladino, Fabio Pisacane, and Sergio Conceicao. But on Monday, it was revealed that Lazio reached an agreement with Gattuso, a manager who has long been admired by Lotito. The official announcement is expected to take place once Sarri’s contract is terminated.

The Contract Details

Il Corriere dello Sport reveals the details behind the agreement between Lazio and the former AC Milan, Napoli, and Italy head coach. The 48-year-old will sign a one-year contract with an option for a second. His yearly net salary will be €1.5 million, in addition to bonuses.

Gattuso Almost Joined Lazio in the Past

Gattuso has been unattached since leaving the Italian national team after missing out on a World Cup spot. The Roman newspaper tells how Lotito had already tried to appoint him in October 2019 when Lazio were losing 0-3 to Atalanta. The Calabrian was reportedly on his way to Rome, but Simone Inzaghi rescued his job by pulling off a second-half comeback to earn a draw.

The legendary midfielder was also an option for Lazio before settling on Marco Baroni in June 2024, and once again last summer ahead of Sarri’s return to Formello.

  1. Why the hell do some clubs still have faith in people like Gattuso, Giampaolo, Pioli or Di Francesco ?

  2. It’s a 1 year deal and 1m less than Sarri, which is a positive. The standards for Gattuso are low, so if Lazio can qualify for Europe that’d be a massive win… Otherwise, expect an 8th-10th place finish.

    1. Yo Sarri got that 8th-10th (9th more precisely) so what could this systematic failure guy do is more like anything from 13th down. Considering the empty stadium (I don’t see more than 2 or max 5000 season tickets bought) I would even say 15th or lower

If 25-26 was a bad season wait for the next one

      1. It’s definitely a possibility, but I’m relying on Gattuso staying with the 4-3-3 system, and Lazio staying healthy.

It’s was Sarri plays and what the squad knows. If Sarri had a healthy squad, I think Lazio cracks the top 7 and qualifies for Europe.

Gattuso’s bar is much lower. Even with a healthy squad, I think he keeps Lazio in the 8-10 range.

  3. I have never been a Gattuso fan with his preferred 4-3-3 formation. I call him a mid-table coach and next year could very well be that.

However, the only shining light for me is this, the match against Bosnia, other than the Bastoni red card, Italy did play pretty well with gusto and motivation, Gattuso would of had something to do with that.

Look, some mediocre coaches all of a sudden come good, maybe its experience or wisdom etc so I’ll hold my 100% judgement until December to see where we are.

Plus it also depends on the transfer market as well and see how much investment Lotito provides. They would of discussed this part of the contractual arrangements.
