Lazio Winger Reportedly Close to Joining Fiorentina

Matteo Cancellieri’s Career Path

The 24-year-old is a Roma youth product who made his big breakthrough after joining Hellas Verona. The Italian’s exploits at the Bentegodi convinced the Biancocelesti to splash circa €10 million to secure his services in 2022.

Cancellieri had a forgettable first campaign at Lazio, failing to make a significant impact at Maurizio Sarri’s court. The winger then spent the next two seasons on loan at Empoli and Parma, before returning to the Italian capital in the summer of 2025. He managed to earn his way back to the squad thanks to an impressive pre-season, assisted by the club’s transfer ban.

Cancellieri’s Numbers This Season

This season, Cancellieri competed for a starting role with Gustav Isaksen on the right flank, at least when both of them were healthy. He ended up registering 35 appearances across all competitions, contributing with four goals and two assists. While he managed to produce occasional flashes of brilliance, his performances weren’t always consistent.

Gattuso Favors Isaksen Over Cancellieri

According to Il Messaggero, incoming Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso is a big admirer of Isaksen, who is expected to be confirmed as a regular starter. On the other hand, Cancellieri could be heading to the exit door.

The Roman newspaper claims that the Roman is close to joining Fiorentina, where he’ll have the opportunity to play under Fabio Grosso, who is expected to be announced as Paolo Vanoli’s replacement.
