Lazio have apparently terminated their collaboration with Polymarket, which acted as their main shirt sponsor for a brief period.

Polymarket Banned in Italy

After going sponsorless for almost three years, the Biancocelesti finally secured an agreement worth around €22 million with the New York-based company in April. However, this partnership hit a snag, as Polymarket was blacklisted by the Italian authorities, with its website taken down for allegedly offering its clients unauthorised betting services.

The American company argued that its activity should be placed under the ‘prediction market’ banner rather than betting, but this nuance has yet to convince the Italian courts. Therefore, Lazio have been dealt a new blow, as displaying the company’s name on their jerseys is no longer plausible.

Lazio Remove Polymarket Off Club Shirt

As reported by Il Messaggero and La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti have removed Polymarket’s logo from their official website, and it’s no longer showing on the jerseys displayed on the club’s online store. These sources believe that this is a clear sign that the club has rescinded its contract with its main sponsor.

Another Painful Blow for Lazio & Claudio Lotito

Lazio were expected to pocket €19 million over the next two campaigns, so this situation will add further pressure on Claudio Lotito’s administration, which is already under immeasurable pressure due to the ongoing fan boycott, which could cost the club up to €20 million in revenues. It remains to be seen if Lotito and Co. will be able to find a new endorser to replace Polymarket.

  1. I was just telling someone that I hated this sponsor, but understood they needed the money and then this happens. Fantastic.
