Lazio have reportedly been offered the services of Cagliari striker Sebastiano Esposito, whose agent had a public spat with the Rossoblu’s hierarchy.

Sebastiano Esposito’s Career Path

The 24-year-old is the middle child among three siblings who rose through Inter Milan’s youth ranks. His older brother, Salvatore, currently plays for Sampdoria, while Francesco Pio is the youngest and most famous, having made his big Serie A breakthrough last season with the Nerazzurri.

Following several loan spells, Sebastiano joined Cagliari last summer and had an impressive first campaign in Sardinia, thus earning a permanent transfer for €4 million, with Inter retaining a 40% sell-on fee.

Esposito Fell Out with Cagliari

While Esposito and Cagliari were expected to extend their collaboration for at least another campaign, they have recently fallen out in public. The club released a statement accusing the player of going AWOL, while the latter’s agent insisted he had received the green light from the head coach and sporting director, while accusing club president Tommaso Guilini of plotting to sell the attacker.

Esposito Offered to Lazio

Following this incident, the versatile attacker has been heavily tipped to join Atalanta, but according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, no agreement has been reached with La Dea. The transfer market expert adds that the player has also been offered to Lazio, while contacts with Venezia are also ongoing.

Lazio Seeking a Different Profile

Nevertheless, Pedulla notes that Lazio don’t consider Esposito a priority, as they plan to sign a centre-forward, whereas the Cagliari man mainly operates as a second striker, although he occasionally plays as a No.9. The Biancocelesti’s dream signing remains AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, but they’re also chasing other profiles, like Benfica’s Franjo Ivanovic and Fiorentina’s Roberto Piccoli.

  1. A definite sign if the numbers required are decent. Also some players that could go their way. With the 40% sell-on a direct purchase is probably not do able, so getting him on a loan with option to buy with a direct fee of like 2-3 million. Definitely something that should be considered.

Lazzari, Pellegrini or Cancellieri could all be interesting for Cagliari I imagine. Not sure if any of them would be excited to play for the Sardinian side but hey.
