Lazio are willing to send Nuno Tavares to Porto, but they’re expecting the Portuguese giants to make an improved effort.

The Background

Following the arrival of Alfonso Pedraza, the Biancocelesti must sell either Tavares or Luca Pellegrini. While the Italian is running on an expiring contract, the management might prefer to offload the Portuguese international, as his sale would generate a higher profit, not to mention chopping off one of the highest salaries (€2.5 million net per year) off the wage bill.

Porto Keen to Sign Nuno Tavares

The Lisbon native has been linked with Turkish and Saudi destinations earlier in the summer. But in recent weeks, Porto emerged as his most likely destination, with the Dragoa looking to recruit the player who developped his game at the academies of their two arch-rivals, Benfica and Sporting CP.

Lazio Ask Porto to Improve Their Offer for Tavares

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Porto’s latest offer for Tavares was a loan worth €2 million with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, these terms haven’t tempted Lazio, who are still holding out for higher figures. It should be remembered that the left-back’s former employers, Arsenal, are entitled to receive a 35% sell-on fee.

Tavares’ Highs & Lows at Lazio

Tavares immediately became a fan favourite at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to a flying start to his Lazio stint back in the 2024/25 campaign. However, his momentum was later derailed by injuries. Last season, he initially struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s more defensive and disciplined approach, thus spending a large portion of the campaign on the bench

  1. Buyout the clause. Let him play this season, and swell for 30 million. I have a good feeling about him this season.

    1. Lazio have very few attacking threats on this squad. Zaccagni and Tavares were linking up nicely down the left side towards the end of the season.

If Tavares is healthy and in form, you can generate a few extra million for him at the January window. Lazio needs every dollar it can get.

      1. risk is he gets injured again and we’re stuck. I love tavares, but he’s too injury prone to be relied on
