Ligue 1 Club Angers Enquires About Lazio Benchwarmer

Lazio midfielder Reda Belahyane has reportedly attracted interest from Angers SCO, who could launch a late-summer attempt to recruit him.

Reda Belahyane’s Career Path & Lazio Struggles

The 22-year-old is a Moroccan international who was born and raised in France. He developped his game at his hometown club of Aubervilliers, and then had experiences at the academies of Red Star FC, Montfermeil, and OGC Nice, before making the move to Italy in January 2024 through the gates of Hellas Verona.

In February 2025, the midfielder completed a €10.5 million transfer to Lazio. However, he struggled for playing time under Marco Baroni and Maurizio Sarri, and the early signs suggest a similar fate under Gennaro Gattuso’s tutelage.

Angers SCO Tracking Belahyane

According to renowned French journalist Santi Aouna, Angers have enquired about Belahyane, who is one of several names on the club’s shortlist. The Ligue 1 boys are looking to bolster their midfield before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Moroccan player is tied to Lazio with a contract valid until June 2030, and Transfermarkt estimates his current value at €6.8 million. Belahyane has only made 21 appearances since joining the Aquile, providing his teammates with two assists, but has yet to score a goal for the club.

Why Lazio Might Not Sanction Belahyane’s Departure

Gattuso’s three main options in midfield are Kenneth Taylor, Nicolo Rovella, and new signing Davide Frattesi. However, the department lacks depth beyond this trio. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru might be the first option off the bench, but he’s currently sidelined with an injury. Moreover, Bruno Galassi and Adrian Przyborek might be promising teenagers, but they remain untested.

Therefore, Lazio might be reluctant to part ways with Belahyane, as it would leave them exposed in the middle of the park, unless they can find a replacement before Tuesday.
