Lazio are close to snatching the signature of Fiorentina attacker Albert Gudmundsson on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Lazio Working to Sign Albert Gudmundsson on Deadline Day
The Icelandic international has been heavily linked with a move to the Italian capital over the past few days. But while we had conflicting reports regarding whether or not Gennaro Gattuso is willing to accommodate him, several reliable sources are now reporting that the transfer could be imminent.
Lazio & Fiorentina Closing Gudmundsson Deal
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio have accelerated their attempts to land the 29-year-old. The two clubs need to sort out some of the remaining details before booking a medical.
Sky Sport Italia correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio adds that the Biancocelesti are currently negotiating terms with the player’s entourage after striking a deal with the Viola. He expects the formula to be a loan with an option to buy. The transfer market expert believes Matteo Cancellieri’s stay won’t block Gudmundsson’s arrival. Meanwhile, Lazio insider Damiano Er Faina goes even further, insisting that the deal is done.

After making a name for himself in the Netherlands, the skilful attacker joined Genoa in 2022, and went on to cement himself as the biggest attraction at the Luigi Ferraris. In the summer of 2024, he completed a transfer to Fiorentina, but hasn’t truly flourished in Tuscany, often struggling with injuries and getting lost in the shuffle amidst the recurring managerial changes.
Gudmundsson’s Role at Lazio
It will be interesting to see where Gudmundsson would fit in Lazio’s tactical jigsaw. The Icelandic international is primarily a second striker or an attacking midfielder, so his arrival can help Gattuso switch to his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation. Nevertheless, he could also feature as a winger in a 4-3-3 system, perhaps vying with Mattia Zaccagni for a starting role on the left side.
