Lazio have announced the capture of Fiorentina attacker Albert Gudmundsson, who completes a deadline-day move.

The 29-year-old emerged as a serious target for the club by the weekend, and the two clubs were able to reach a swift agreement after a 48-hour blitz.
Albert Gudmundsson Joins Lazio on Loan with an Option to Buy
Lazio have made the move official through a note published on the club’s official website, confirming that the 29-year-old was signed on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
SS Lazio announces that it has acquired Albert Gudmundsson on loan with an option to make a permanent purchase from ACF Fiorentina srl.
While the official statement didn’t disclose any figures, La Lazio Siamo Noi believes the loan is effectively free, while the option to buy is worth €11 million.
Gudmundsson has been a mainstay in Italian football since making the move from AZ Alkmaar to Genoa in January 2022. After establishing himself as the Grifone’s top star, he moved to Fiorentina in the summer of 2024. However, his time in Tuscany has been hampered by injuries and tactical difficulties, as the club kept changing managers in recent campaigns.
Gudmundsson’s Role at Lazio
The Iceland international originally plays as a second striker or an attacking midfielder, so it will be interesting to see how he would fit into Gennaro Gattuso’s current 4-3-3 system. Gudmundsson can play on either wing, but his presence could also allow the Calabrian manager to implement his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation.
