Lazio have handed the Lega Serie A their squad list for the 2026/27 campaign, and it doesn’t include either Patric or Luca Pellegrini.

With the summer transfer window now behind us, Serie A clubs were asked to confirm their squads for the new campaign. Once these lists are registered, they must remain virtually intact until the market reopens in January, with only two changes allowed.

The Categories
Each Serie A club is allowed to pick a maximum of 25 senior players (above the age of 22), plus an unlimited number of players aged 22 and below. The senior list is divided into three categories: Four spots reserved for the club’s academy products, another four spots for the products of any Italian academy, and 17 free spots.
Lazio Drop Romagnoli, Patric & Pellegrini
On Wednesday evening, Lazio published their squad on the club’s official website. The list obviously included their six new signings, Alfonso Pedraza, Danilho Doekhi, Davide Frattesi, Josip Sutalo, Andrea Pinamonti, and Albert Gudmundsson. On the other hand, Patric and Pellegrini were left out, in addition to Alessio Romagnoli, who was given the green light to fly to Qatar and finally sign for Al-Sadd.
Why Patric Was Left Out
The Spaniard is Lazio’s longest-serving player in the current team, but his most recent campaigns have been plagued by injuries, and this summer, he missed the entire pre-season. It appears that the 32-year-old’s condition is considered so severe that he isn’t expected to take part in the action any time soon.
Why Luca Pellegrini Was Excluded
With Pedraza and Nuno Tavares vying for a starting role at left-back, Pellegrini can be deemed surplus to requirements. While his current injury isn’t serious, it certainly didn’t help his case. The 27-year-old reportedly has suitors in Turkiye, so it remains to be seen if he can seal a move before the market closes on Friday.

Their contracts expire at the end of this season and won’t be renewed, so it makes perfect sense to focus on the future and give others a chance to prove themselves. Patric is constantly injured, and hopefully a buyer can be found for Pellegrini in Turkey; that way, we can get his hefty salary off the books and bring in a few million from the sale.
Agreed, but starting the season with only Doekhi, Provstgaard, and a not match fit Šutalo with the two Bordon brothers as backups. Is a massive gamble. Five players for two positions, that is already thin on depth, let alone having two of those be untested youth players and a third who was injured for most of the pre-season.
I don’t know if there was any money left, but an extra center-back wouldn’t have hurt.
Then again, the Romagnoli transfer happened after the Serie A transfer window had already closed. Getting an extra defender in while Romagnoli was still under contract, wouldn’t have been great business either. If Felipe Bordon comes in and is good, that would be huge.
