Lazio are still considering making one or more additions to their squad, with Mauro Icardi and David Alaba on their shortlist.
Lazio Director Hints at Free Transfers
While the transfer market in Italy closed on Tuesday evening, Serie A clubs can still sign unattached players on free transfers. On Thursday, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani admitted that Patric and Luca Pellegrini were left out of the Serie A squad list to make room for potential new arrivals, raising speculation over the identities of the club’s targets.
Mauro Icardi Remains a Possibility for Lazio
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Italian capital club is tracking three experienced players for three different departments. The first name on the list is Icardi, whose agent has already confirmed talks with Lazio’s Fabiani. The Argentine striker is said to be biding his time to reflect on his options, as he plans to make the best ‘lifestyle’ choice.

Lazio have already signed a new striker in the form of Andrea Pinamonti, but they offloaded three: Petar Ratkov, Boulaye Dia, and Gabriele Artistico. Therefore, many feel Gennaro Gattuso needs another centre-forward at his disposal, or he’ll have to rely on the versatile Tijjani Noslin and Albert Gudmundsson.
Lazio Consider Replacing Romagnoli With David Alaba
After selling Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd, Lazio could do with another defender, especially with the injured Patric considered indefinitely unavailable. The Roman newspaper thus reveals interest in Alaba, who left Real Madrid after five years of service. The Austria captain is a left-footed defender capable of filling various roles, so he would be an important addition to the squad.

However, the source admits that signing the 34-year-old remains a complicated task, not to mention the player’s woeful injury record in recent years.
Marcelo Brozovic Also on Lazio Watchlist
Finally, Lazio are reportedly contemplating a move for Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatian spent eight years at Inter Milan, cementing himself as arguably the best deep-lying playmaker at the end of his run. He then signed for Al-Nassr in 2023. After three years in the Saudi Pro League, the 33-year-old is ready to return to Europe.
The Biancocelesti already have a reliable Regista in Nicolò Rovella, but his recurring injuries are causing concern among the Laziali.

Alaba ?
He is always injured and has a huge salary, no thanks really.
Icardi, why not for one year, it all depends of the salary.
With Icardi I think you need to to put some questions forward:
– Does Icardi make it likely that Lazio qualify for the Europa League next season?
If the answer is no, the follow-up question:
– is Lazio likely too weak to avoid relegation?
If the answer on both questions is no. Than Lazio simply doesn’t benefit from signing him.
He would cost a lot while he doesn’t add transfer value to the squad. So he would make it harder to comply with the FIGC/Covisoc rules.
Qualifying for the Conference league is also financially not desirable. As without the supporters being present at home matches, it would barely create any revenue. Only price money, which unless you make it very far isn’t that great at all. While it would require investing in a bigger squad.
I understand your point of vue but for the moment the club has only two pure strikers, Pinamonti and Serra, it’s few.
I’m not a big fan of Icardi but like i said why not for one year, given Icardi’s situation, i doubt he will ask a big salary and he is free.
Lazio definitely has selection issues, that’s clear. If Doekhi and Provstgaard get injured. It’s a not all too fit Šutalo with one of the Bordon brothers. While if Pinamonti gets injured it will be likely Noslin or Guđmundsson or Serra.
I’d say the defensive risk is way higher. But would Lazio relegate if Pinamonti gets injured? I don’t think so.
Lazio is still going to be paying a likely sum of €75-80mil. With not that much income. Icardi has a manager and likely also will want a signing on fee, as there are clubs still searching for a goalscorer. He’s with Benzema the highest profile striker still available. So fixed contract an Icardi transfer even for a single season, I’d say would cost Lazio 7-9 million. Which isn’t even bonuses.
For a club that’s spending the 6th most in Serie A, with almost no match day income, relatively low sponsor income and no European football. Why make it financially even harder?
Avoiding relegations while stabilising the club and getting rid of the Covisoc restrictions, should in my opinion be the number one priority. If somehow Lazio has a great season, fantastic. But European football as a goal, is a fantasy at this point. Those who demand it, are delusional.
Any player with focus on lifestyle should be rejected, regardless the skills or the potential. So, closed doors for Icardi and the circus behind him.
