Lazio Forward Vedat Muriqi Phoned Fenerbahce’s Coach Ahead of Possible Summer Return

Lazio forward Vedat Muriqi’s adventure in Italy may come to an early end, with a possible summer move back to Fenerbahce on the cards.

According to a report from Turkish media outlet AbcGazetesi earlier today, the 27-year-old Kosovan is unhappy in Rome after having a disappointing debut season in Serie A, and is open to a return back to the Turkish side.

Muriqi has only scored one goal in 22 Serie A appearances this season, which is not good enough considering the roughly €20 million investment made to bring him to Rome.

He spoke to Fenerbahce’s sporting director and interim coach Emre Belozoglu on the phone, saying:

I didn’t find the environment I was expecting, it makes no sense to insist and wait any longer. If you want to bring me back home, I’m ready.

The Turkish club cannot afford to buy Muriqi outright due to financial restrictions and so would be ready to make a loan offer with his €2 million annual salary being covered by the side.

This seems like an unattractive offer for Lazio, who would prefer to either keep him and hope he starts to shine, or sell him for around €15-16 million.
