It is no secret that AC Milan defender and captain Alessio Romagnoli is a Laziale at heart. The Italian defender has played for both Roma and Milan during his career but it is common knowledge that the club in his heart is Lazio. Unfortunately for Romagnoli, but perhaps luckily for the Biancocelesti, the Italian will miss his chance to play at the Stadio Olimpico this season, suffering an injury on international duty with Italy.
Romagnoli suffered a muscle injury in his calf yesterday and was withdrawn from the Azzurri set-up as a precaution. However, fear turned to reality as AC Milan today confirmed the extent of Romagnoli’s injury – which will see him re-assessed in ten days time but likely to be out for up to four weeks. Therefore, he is expected to miss the game against Lazio and Milan head coach Gennaro Gattuso will be reportedly experimenting with a three-man defence made up of either Ricardo Rodriguez or Ignazio Abate, Duvan Zapata and Stefan Simic.
Lazio will be hoping to take full advantage of Romagnoli’s absence, defeating Milan and proving that they have what it takes to be Champions League contenders, after failing to pick up a point against a single big six side this season.
