Fiorentina Emerge as Contenders for Lazio Target Romagnoli

Fiorentina are considering entering the race to sign Alessio Romagnoli, who is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Lazio.

The Biancocelesti have been in talks with the 27-year-old Italian centre back for months now, desperate to secure his signature once his contract expires with Milan at the end of this month. The two parties are close to reaching an agreement, with only about €500,000 separating offer and request.

As reported by La Nazione (via LazioNews24), Fiorentina are thinking about making a late move for Romagnoli, who will be a free agent at the end of this month. Lazio haven’t reached an agreement yet regarding his contract and the Viola have a chance to complicate things.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade is a big fan of the Milan captain and so is keen to add him to Vincenzo Italiano’s Viola squad, who are on the rise following their return to European competition.

Apollo’s Thoughts

If Fiorentina manage to gazump Lazio then I’ll be truly speechless. They’ve had months now to try and iron out an agreement with Romagnoli and it’s hard to see why they’re taking the risk of losing out by penny pinching so much.

The departure of Luiz Felipe and likely sale of Francesco Acerbi makes an experienced centre back a must-buy this summer and getting a fan of the club like Romagnoli seems like the obvious move.

For their part, the Italian centre back would be a strong addition to Italiano’s Fiorentina squad, especially if they manage to keep their hands on Nikola Milenkovic. I do find it a little hard to imagine them immediately stumping up a convincing offer but there’s no guarantees that Lazio will even get this deal across the line this month, so it’s not like they are short for time. All Lazio fans can do now, seemingly, is hope for the best.
