Ex-Coach Zoff: “Lazio Didn’t Express Themselves At All Against Bayern Munich”

Former Lazio coach Dino Zoff highlighted the strangeness of the season and Bayern Munich’s impressive 4-1 win over Lazio.

Speaking to Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 79-year-old Italian first spoke about the ongoing Serie A season.

It’s a strange season but it makes sense given the pandemic. Inter are undoubtedly having a great season and have all the potential to do so.

Juventus had some not extraordinary games, then they changed a lot with many interesting young players. They have all the prerequisites to re-emerge even if up until now they’ve played games not like Juventus.

He touched on coach Simone Inzaghi’s decision to play Francesco Acerbi as the left sided defender in a back three.

That’s the coach’s prerogative, he’s the one who decides. He’s with the team and the players every day.

There has been a difference in performance, just look at the numbers.

The 1982 World Cup winner spoke about team’s playing from the back.

The game depends on the characteristics of the players, you have to adapt to your own characteristics and possibilities.

Lazio’s numbers in these last two games are not very inspiring, it’s useless to talk about starting from the back or from the top. I’m never someone for trends, they don’t suit everyone.

He gave his thoughts about VAR.

On offside it is unquestionable. For everything else the referees are losing their minds, they don’t know whether to whistle or not.

I understand in the area when there are a lot of people, but something that could help is now creating more controversy than before.

Zoff spoke about the Biancocelesti’s 4-1 loss to Bayern in the Champions League.

Lazio found themselves in a moment of not particularly good form, the team didn’t express themselves at all and were disunited.

I have to take into account the strength of the opponent and play accordingly, but without fear. I didn’t expect Bayern to be so brilliant, but we weren’t there. We took it badly.

He touched on the current goalkeeping situation at Lazio.

If you have two goalkeepers of the same height you play both of them alternately. It’s not easy to be a goalkeeper in Rome because there is a lot of criticism.

I don’t see Strakosha as a bad player, but everyone has to improve, but I can’t blame him. Inzaghi will decide whether or not to play him.

Finally, Zoff looked ahead to the Biancocelesti’s upcoming Serie A clash against Juventus.

I expect a good game. Juve have quality, but if Lazio get some form back, they can play. Who am I rooting for? I don’t usually cheer. I like hard-fought football.
