Nine Lazio players have received call-ups from the respective national teams ahead of the first international break of the season.
While we’re only three rounds into the new campaign, the club action will be interrupted to make way for national teams over the next ten days. In Europe, this week will witness the start of the new edition of the UEFA Nations League, whereas the South American nations will resume their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
Castellanos, Guendouzi, Dele-Bashiru & More
Therefore, Lazio coach Marco Baroni will have to do without nine of his players over the coming days, including Taty Castellanos who earned his maiden Argentina call-up following an impressive start to the new season. The 25-year-old has thus far bagged two goals in three Serie A appearances.
For his part, Mattia Zaccagni will rejoin Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad. The Azzurri will be desperate to put their EURO 2024 woes behind them when they take on France and Matteo Guendouzi in their next outing in Paris, followed by Israel.
Christos Mandas also earned a call-up for Greece. The goalkeeper made his senior national debut in June following his break breakthrough at the Stadio Olimpico. Full-backs Adam Marusic and Elseid Hysaj will join Montenegro and Albania respectively, while Gustav Isaksen will be a part of the Danish squad.
Finally, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will link up with his compatriots in Nigeria, while 19-year-old Lazio youth product Alessandro Milani accepted a call-up from Venezuela, thus switching his allegiance after having previously represented Italy at the youth levels.
